Why were meagre numbers stationed in the East to protect more populous region even after 24 years of independence? A region neglected based on theory that only fair and tall looks are a measure of superiority and right to governance.

India just capitalised on the failures of your political and military leadership. Give chance to an adversary and it would always capitalise.

The region was devastated by colonial policies and environmental crisis and faced slow development. There was no reason to pour in the troops as the unit had ample geography on its side. What was miscalculated was the subdued sense of Bengali supremacy pounced upon by India.
