Pakistan's 3 Agosta 90B Submarines are shouldering the burden of defending the coastline. The 2 Agosta 70s are basically museum pieces that shouldn't be used because they risk the lives of the crews; due to their age much less their antiquated technology

Pakistan has always tried to acquire a qualitative edge over the Indians where it can. if Pakistan at least leases one if not two upgraded Turkish type 209 submarines; it can fill a gap; while learning about a different design philosophy when designing its future submarine with the Chinese (s-20) and also learn about a type the Indian navy operates

a 5 year lease of two of these submarines could be a smart stop-gap measure; especially if Pakistan can get them at a reasonable price

Should Pakistan approach turkey about this?

I think it would be brilliant Idea after all by that time our six submarines will be ready...:pakistan::pakistan::pakistan:

what is the age of Type-209 of Turkish navy???

India has some of the similar class, and they're nearly 30 years old.

With Russia breathing down Erdogan's neck
And with NATO unlikely to come to its rescue in case of a Russian Invasion

Turkey might Just ask PN to lease 1 Agosta 90B sub
Along with 2 Sqds of F16 with 40-50 Brave pilots

Without asking from OEM?

Turkish industry officials have told Defense News they are ready to offer Pakistan Type-209s if asked.

Turkey, one of Pakistan's closest allies and strongest defense industry partners, shelved its plans to upgrade its six Type-209/1200 Atilay class subs with AIP systems in favor of acquiring the Type-214.

However, Pakistani defense industry officials have said Islamabad would prefer a newer design.

Pakistan To Buy 8 Submarines From China

mind you a stop gap lease is not needed as pakistan is not going to war tommorow.

We will retire our old type 209 when the type 214 joins the navy, in a few years.

What 209s can offer Pakistan Even if those are MLUed and modernized?

Some time ago PN was looking 2-3 used western subs to retire 70s which are pretty old now.

turkey is building type 214's they can be built and sold on to pakistan if required. you wanted them originally, so why not, help your turkish bro's out, and get some milgems whilst your there, as you need them too.

nothing wrong if the lease amount is too low...It will only increase PN strength..
It is always better to have something instead of nothing..

An interesting line of thought. Right now it is speculation but what if it turns out that way ?
