The weight would be from the lens itself..
The CMOS(or else) sensor..the DSP..the governing GPP.. all can be fit into the size of an iphone.. back a few pounds of Li cells.. and you are ok for ten hours of continuous video without charge..or three days of HD pictures..
THe world is a lot different now...
However..in it cannot replace a satellite for a very good reason..
something called a surface to air missile.. unless you design it to be a LO platform..and then the weight truly kicks in.

I doubt mildly bad weather at 70 000 feet
For all those who say bad weather will effect this...There is no weather above "Tropopause"
This plane or anything like this will fly in Stratosphere and above where there is no clouds and no weather except jetstreams which can be predicted and kept away from..
i have been working on solar systems for three years and this idea does not seem feasible since the plane cannot fly on solar power alone for weeks because of night time and also if you go for battery storage than the weight requirement will be too much. also if the weight increases than so will the power requirement and thus more solar panels will be required.
A hot air baloon seems a much feasible solution
Pakistan should have both satellites and high flying planes. us had( and has ) hundreds of satellites. even then they deployed sr 71 and blackbirds gave them lot help.
Hi,
The plane is made of Carbon fiber which is lite and strong and the solar panels are wafer thin..plus lithium batteries which can be charged during day and used during night..so 24 hour operation.
Its not a hot air balloon..Its a Helium balloon...
the US still uses U-2 spyplanes,so there must be something usefull about them....
They are probably used more these days for research than spying. But manned aircraft can provide real-time coverage, whereas satellites cannot remain on-station.
The manned AC mission is still there, just not as much as it used to be.
