There is no better option to democracy…and we should not even be thinking about scrapping it!!
But yes, in case of India, some level of political reforms are required...every tom-dick-harry is forming his own party, taking part in government and then hold the policy maker in ruling party to ransom on every political decision…
I would suggest some points as below to make our system more transparent and effective,
• Scrap all type of reservations, why do we need it even after 60 years of impendence.
• Any political party (regional party) that extends its support to any other party to get to the required numeric figure and form the government should NOT be allowed to withdraw its support until the next electoral cycle.
• There should not be more than two political parties at national level, which will do away with above suggestion.
• All politicians must have retirement age which should not exceed 65 years.
• People should have right to reject all candidates if they find none of the candidates are worth to vote.
• Elected politicians must have 365 degree accountability and their performance must be assessed annually by a neutral authority like Lokpal.
• They should behave responsibly in parliament and in public places.
• National level integrated grievance redressal mechanism must be put in place with auto escalation to upper level if there is no response within stipulated time frame. A final level of escalation should be an auto logging of a case in Lokpal/consumer court kind of system.
