Shooting outside ISRO facility an amateurish attempt: PC

Home Minister P Chidambaram on Tuesday termed the shooting incident outside the ISRO facility near Bangalore as an 'amateurish attempt' and said a security review of the sensitive facility has been ordered.

"This seems to be an amateurish attempt made by two men with country-made pistols," he told reporters. Chidamabaram said he has asked CISF, which is in-charge of the security of ISRO, to do "another security review" of the area.

A team is investigating the matter, he said. The Home Minister said preliminary reports state that two men shot at sentries posted at the ISRO facility from a distance of 10-15 metres in the early hours. The attackers had their faces covered. "The sentries fired back," he said. Chidambaram said there was no danger to the establishment.

If we see this incident from different angel than it will make authorities to move and make the security full proof. As after 26/11 they have moved for better training, special force, equipments, intelligence etc.

As security review is ordered they will iron out all the deficiencies in sensitive installations and learn a few lessons.

"There is not threat to ISRO. It is an amateurish attack," said Chidambaram, adding that the Central Government has asked for ISRO security to be monitored properly.



A shootout took place between two unidentified men and security guards outside the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)''s Byalalu Centre, around 40 kilometers from Bangalore early on Tuesday morning.



The two youth were reportedly moving in a suspected manner outside the ISRO center around 3 a.m. and were attempting to get inside the campus. They opened fire on the security personnel, who approached them for questioning.



Around two rounds of fire were exchanged between the two sides.

Its an amateurish comment. Just because they didnt attack doesn't mean there is no terror threat. The question remains, "what were armed men doing prowling around ISRO building? They could have been scouting for possible future attack.

We should not discount terror threat to India. It is real. There are scumbags within and outside the country who wish to harm us. We should be alert and never underestimate them.
