Nothing new in this and was very widely known. The Congress love affair with USSR started in 1965 when lal bahadur shastri was assassinated and the result was Indira Gandhi became the PM of India. Three years later Rajiv would marry Sonia (Coincidental that his father's relationship with USSR?) in 1968 and another 3 years later we had Indo-Soviet Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation.

On the other hand, One interesting fact about Dr Subramanian Swamy is that he was the only one who was recused and taken out of the country when Indira Gandhi imposed emergency in 1975. It shows the importance of the person to the West.
