Shocker: Indian Reforms are Stalled!

PVN obviously.

Even the best plans in the world are worthless if they cannot be implemented.

That is what I'm saying, PVN was nowhere close to being considered a "strong" leader...... he was a shrewd politicians and knew how to get things done.......

your example of Modi as a strong leader is incorrect....... the only thing 'strong' about Modi is his regional appeal and his knack for attracting controversies.......... like I said earlier......... not gonna work at a national level....

There is a difference b/w regional politics and national politics.......

.
That was my point...... in 1990s PVN wasn't a "strong" leader either....... Infact, he ran a minority govt and managed to oversee comprehensive economic reforms........ that is what a leader should be....... keep a low profile and get the job done!!

Modi is a lightning rod nothing else

1990 India was bankrupt, PVN was able to push the reforms because everyone was desperate. A weak leader would have to wait till India reaches that bankruptcy stage again to be able to bring in economic reforms. Is that what we want?

We need reforms now, there are several other developing countries competing for that FDI, we can't just sit here hoping that our weak leaders might do something about it. If they can't do it now, there is no guarantee they ll do it after the next elections.

Bottom line, he got it done.

Something which the current government is unable to do, even with something as small as retail FDI.

If Congress has any decency, they should go for mid term polls and explain to the people that they could not push through any reforms bcs of unreliable allies, so vote us in with majority.

This lame duck Govt and its PM is not getting us anywhere.

.
Very true. No Indian government will take any strong policy decision in the year of elections. So most likely such decisions will be taken after 2014 elections if a strong central government is formed.

Some comment on Mr. Modi's abilities are understandable. It's true he is STRONG leader in all kinda subjects

Just look at Gujarat's growth under his leadership. Compare it with previous leaders or in current situation with other state leaders. He has taken Gujarat to number one state in India. Even opposition accept that. That is the reason he is one who got support for next PM from all over India and world. It will be clear in 2014 elections if BJP project him as PM candidate
