Shoaib Malik should have replaced Shahid Afridi-Says Geoff Lawson
Submitted by Satish Goel on Wed, 07/21/2010 - 16:32
Former Pakistan coach Geoff Lawson believes that former skipper Shoaib Malik should have replaced Shahid Afridi as skipper.
After the retirement announcement of Afridi, vice captain Salman Butt got promoted to be the captain of the Test team for the second and final test match against Australia. PCB and the team management have elevated Butt to captain's post.
But Lawson feels that Malik would have been a better option for the captain's spot after such disturbances. According to him, Malik is a much matured player now and he is capable to handle the issues at this period of time.
However, Malik was not in the playing eleven for the first Test match as the selectors and team management had preferred youngster Azhar Ali over him.
Shoaib Malik was appointed as the skipper of the Pakistan cricket team in the month of April in the year 2007. Younis Khan had taken the post from him later. Lawson was the coach of the Pakistan team but before completion of his two-year contract, the PCB had sacked him.
