Shia killing watchdog site apparently banned

The website was blocked on Saturday evening.

A website which acts as watchdog for murder of Shias, motivated by sectarian differences, Shiakilling.com, was apparently blocked on Saturday night.

Visitors were greeted with a “this webpage is not available” sign as they tried to access the site.

Many people from Pakistan on the social media site twitter protested against the forced inability to access the web page. Some blamed Pakistan Telecommunication Authority for instituting a politically motivated ban, however this could not be confirmed independently.

The site came back online briefly, before visitors started getting the aforementioned notice again.

The block comes Saturday night, almost a week after the regulatory body had blocked the official website of the Ahmadiyya community, which was ‘unblocked’ later.

Episodes of violence against Shia Muslims in Pakistan have been on the rise recently, particularly target killing of community members in Karachi and Hazaras in Balochistan.

Some on twitter protesting against the apparent ban wrote under the trend hashtag #DontBanShiaKillingWebsite:

Ban on Shia website: Police disperse protest rally in Karachi

KARACHI: Police officials resorted to using teargas and aerial firing to disperse a protest rally by the Shia Action Committee (SAC) near Numaish Chowrangi in Karachi, Express News reported on Tuesday.

The protesters wanted to go to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) office on Shahrah-e-Faisal and register their complaint against the ban on a watchdog website, shiakilling.com.

The law enforcers had told the participants of the rally that they will not be allowed to reach their destination and the protest route was blocked. However the protesters, mostly youngsters, overcame the blockade and moved on.

The protesters also threw stones at the police officials present in the area and burnt tyres. Groups of new protesters joined the demonstration later.

No arrests have been made so far.

i feel pity for you guys u are like a pawn just controlled really easily from outside?what is this shia killing?in the past ten years 100000 people died how many were shia?2000 5000 10000 or 20000 u dont look at the bigger picture.i hope a day will come when we wont call ourselves shias sunnis or baralivs but only and only muslims.

huh iran pakistan relations????????what are u talking about we dont have relations with u we got relations with saudi arabia.u need us not we need u go to hell.wait till US start its war against u and we will help them against u because once we helped u with nuke tech and u gave it to UN and put us in deep mess with the world after that i think we dont have any relations if we had any we will be taking or buying gas from u and oil instead of getting it from saudi.

Infact, that is how Islam started and is supposed to be. All due to greedy people seeking power, dividing and getting followers (and hence power/fame).

Well, what will we do with the data and videos?
With or without it, the Pakistan Army is fighting those banned organizations. Why not make a website that watches the total number of people being killed?

This would rage the Shias to be in fury and promote hatred. I think you are overlooking the fact that due to this hatred, there are (banned) organizations that target non-Shia people seeking revenge which again worsens the situation. 3 men from one of these organization were killed in Baluchistan and others arrested by FC.

I am not going against anyone, but this would create more hatred and divide us further.
