Sheikh Rasheed hikes railways’ fares for dam funds

ISLAMABAD: Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed has announced maximum Rs10 per ticket increase in fares of railways for construction of dams.

Commenting over the donations from Pakistan Railways, Sheikh Rasheed said, “Even a beggar refuses to accept Rs10 if we give this meager amount to him, Pakistan Railways has increased its fares from Rs1 to Rs10 for donating in dams funds.”

With this minor increase in fares, Pakistan Railways will be able to raise Rs100 million per annum and the same will be donated in Dams funds, Sheikh said.

Railways minister went on to say the duration of IT officers working on contract was being extended for one year.

10 Rupee to 100 Rupee increase for small period is ok as for wages the problem really will improve once people pay taxes subsidies is not the way forward

Nation pays taxes --> External Debt goes down --> Rupee becomes strong /Reserves build (Gold / Silver/ Investment ) --> The same amount of rupee get you more valuable goods

People are already paying reasonable fare price so 1 rupee extra won't impact much

Tax responsibility for every Pakistani is at least two 5,000 bills to Make Pakistan 20 Billion Dollar

I think even working class folks when they travel they have 6 travelers so they exceed 10,000 Rupee figure for whole family which happens to be same amount Government needs for taxes

Pakistanis pay taxes multiple times on a single item and they don't even know it how much tax they are paying. It's called an indirect tax.

No matter how much tax is collected, unless horrible corruption level is there, every effort will fail miserably.

• Income tax : On what you make
• Property tax : Tax on your home , bigger your home the more tax you pay
• Driving Licence : Permit renewal Year to Year renewals
• Tax collected for Pension
• Tax collected for health service improvement
• At Airport all travelers pay 4-5% Airport tax
• Nice Juicy Sales Tax on all items bought (Food, Clothes , Utensils , Cars, Motor cycle , Electronics Pay)
• Water Bill (with Sales Tax)
• Electricity Bill (with Sales Tax)
• Every driver on road is forced to have car insurance (Almost like a Tax) monthly cost
• Medical Insurance or Medical Prescription Bills
• Some cities have Toll Road charges (i.e You pay if you use the road)
• Sometimes you have to buy health insurance
• Renew your Passport , ID card , health card (Payment charges)
• Fuel also have hidden tax

If you are a company Owner

• You pay another tax on your corporation business (Corporate Tax)

In Pakistan ,
8 lakh people pay in 200 Million people about 0.04%


World wide rich/poor all pay taxes.............the misconception in Pakistan is , there are rivers of milk and honey and there is no tax

Need to hike petrol/gasoline price for private car/bike owners instead of hiking public transport fares.

This will kill 2 birds with one stone, high price of petrol for private cars will force public to use public transport which will reduce import of oil and save some forex. Second the extra money generated will be used to dam funding. Bonus will be less pollution.
