not that i know a few pashtuns from fata in my city who make girls dress and act like boys same thing was with at least one family of afghan refugees before they got expelled from AJK

In our area, a girl (7 or eight year old) would used to dress like a boy with male haircut............that family had no son......the girl went into pardah when she reached puberty and i have heard she now dresses like girls. I have observed the similar cases in Punjab. Its not Pashtun culture or any thing like that.

what is Bacha Posh ? I have read about the Bachabazi in Pakistan and Afghanistan but not Bacha Posh.

Just people's wish to see a son since it is an old aspect of Tribal society's. Boys basically are interpreted as carrying the "blood" on. It is not uncommon to see it here in the US as well in ways but due to more equality in civil rights; it is frowned upon and people tend to keep such emotions bottled up.

Heck if I ever get married, I'd not prefer a son anyway; 3 daughters.. get em educated and married well - and that is my ticket to heaven.
