Inflation measured through the Sensitive Price Index (SPI) posted an increase of 0.08 per cent for the week ended on January 6 driven by a sharp increase in the prices of essential food and non-food items, data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) showed on Friday.

For the lowest income group earning below Rs17,732 per month, the SPI decreased by 0.28pc and for the group earning above Rs44,175, it increased by 0.22pc.

The overall increase was mainly due to an increase of 5.23pc in potato price, followed by chicken 4.45pc, bananas 2.56pc, onions 2.12pc, pulse masoor 1.55pc, pulse gram 1.46pc and pulse mash 1.44pc. Biggest issue in Pakistan is quality control, local brands openly & knowingly make bad product and re-sell at high prices and middle class ends up going with imported items.

And you dont see actual steps being taken by state against this, Pakistan has to stop its habit of importing garbags and make it in house.
Import things which actually matter

Well we do import DAP, insecticides, prices of which have increased by 100 % internationally.

Fuel prices also contribute.

Apart from that vegetable prices has been quite stable recently ( in fact on the lower side).

3kg potato for 100 rupees.
4kg tomotoes for 100 rupees.
2 1/2 kg onions for 100 rupees.
Chicken prices are like 210 Rs / kg live bird.
Carrots 5kg for 100 rupees.

Atta is expensive though in Karachi as compared to rest of country.

In my area we get veggies and meat at relatively lower prices than the rest of the country becuase of abundance of them Alhamdulillah- -------

while what you have quoted are prolly govt sanctioned Googled figures -------. Carrots are around 50-60 rs/kg and fresh beef around 600rs/kg whereas the rate list in the Butchery reads 450 same is the case with mutton and chicken also

I am not taking about government sanctioned prices.

The prices I quoted are the prices at the local vegetable market where vender on carts get together and sell produce. I stop buy every week or so to buy some essentials.

The carrot prices you are quoting are too high, there is so much carrot in the market heaps of it. Maybe it depends on area.
