That indeed is beautifil part of the world. Your lucky. We are planning to do a road trip this summer - cancelled from last year. Right now we are debating as we reach south of France do we turn south east into Italy or turn south west into Spain. If you see a convoy led by a BMW, orange Mini Cooper and Audi that will be us !

You know in old times italy was fractured in many small kingdoms. Lucca was its own small kingdom and Pisa was another one. Then Pisa took Lucca and made it part of their kingdom.

Our cities are rivals.

We have a saying here in Lucca:

"Better a dead Pisanean in the basement than one alive at your table...
