Shami was benched because he is Muslim - Abdul Razzaq

Key Highlights
  • A Pakistan cricket analyst felt Mohammed Shami was rested in match against Sri Lanka due to a certain BJP agenda
  • This isn't the first time that religion has been brought into match discussions while talking about Shami.
  • Shami has taken 14 wickets in four matches for India in World Cup 2019
India opted to rest Mohammed Shami along with Yuzvendra Chahal in their Headingley clash against Sri Lanka. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ravindra Jadeja, respectively, replaced the pair in the team's final ICC World Cup 2019 league tie. India comfortably scripted a seven-wicket win in the game en route to their chase of 256 to finish top of the table on the points table. While the change in playing XI can be seen as a sheer plan of resting key players or looking at other options ahead of the big games, one of the cricket experts from Pakistan read a little too deep into it. He felt Shami was benched because of BJP's agenda of not allowing Muslim's to progress.

Shami was included in India's playing XI after the first-choice option, Bhuvneshwar Kumar suffered a hamstring injury in the Pakistan tie. Since his entry into the lineup, Shami has ruled the headlines in India's next four games picking 14 wickets which include two four-wicket hauls and a fifer as well. He also became the second Indian bowler to take a World Cup hat-trick, en route to his 4/40 against Afghanistan. Shami was then rested in the match against Sri Lanka and fit-again Bhuvi was given a go instead.

Talking about the particular change in India's last league game, a Pakistani panellist, in one of the nation's news channels expressed disappointment at the move. He instead felt that the team must have faced pressure from BJP to bench the pacer.

“I wouldn’t have dropped. The bowler who has picked 14 wickets in only three matches (4 matches). You’ve benched him suddenly. He was also approaching a record. He would’ve also come in top two or three in the leading wicket-takers’ list. I can’t understand. I think there is pressure on the team to bench Shami. I think BJP’s agenda of not letting the Muslims progress is the reason for Shami being benched,” he said.

This isn't the first time that religion has been brought into match discussions while talking about Shami. Earlier last week, former Pakistani cricket Abdul Razzaq, while speaking as one of the panellists on Geo TV, hailed 'musalman' Shami's effort while accusing the other bowlers of not giving their best in India's defeat against England.

Meanwhile, Shami is expected to return to the playing XI in the semis where India will face New Zealand. The match is slated to take place in Manchester on July 9.

Some one has to tell these so called specialist that everything in our day to affair does not involve religion!!!

i don't understand why you guys fall to the sole purpose of exposing the dirt in the minds.

i once again say:
"JAHILON AUR JAHALAT KA BEHTEREEN JAWAB KHAMOSHI HEY" HAZRAT ALI (RA)

Not surprised? These lot see religion in every nook and corner.
Remember Pak player Ahmed Shehzad trying to sell his religion to Dilshan on field, "Convert to Islam, no judgement, straight to heaven".

Abdul Razzak needs to keep his f***** gob shut.
He can't know that to be right, and besides, it's got **** all to do with him.
I just makes him look like a knob.

If Indians had a problem with him being Muslim they simply wouldn't have picked him for National cricket team Mr
Abdul Razzaq!!

Good to list out, and there are lots of players outside cricket who have represented India. I am big fan of Khaleel Ahmed and believe he has better opportunity if he hones well. A left arm pacer is what India hardly had and he somewhat resembles with my favourite Wasim Akram.

It is surprising to read such immature & brainless remarks from a sportsman.

recently i was watching his one of discussions wherein the anchor called him "legendary all-rounder" and to my knowledge he is a player, who can bowl with bat a bit and his statistics proves that he was below par player compared to All-rounders of that period.

Not surprised? These lot see religion in every nook and corner.

and Allah showed Ahmed Shehzad his place.

And you think anyone does really care about this so called trolling? We are having a popcorn and watching this idiocy of what he is shelling out

Exactly, just watch.... I actually point number of friends to certain PDF threads too....because they can learn a lot of things about how many (esp vocal) pakistanis "think".

It's quite ridiculous that even people of such stature in Pakistan have this kind of thinking. They just cant see things beyond the religious prism.

Everything is a conspiracy against Muslims. Sarfaraz Ahmed seems like a gentleman. He redeems Pakistanis.
Absolutely not. Several of them are and have been raised to be like this I think. They are forced to speak nice of Indian team or people sometimes because of our features towards despite their hostile and misplaced hatred toward some of us. Search Google or YouTube, you will find out video about Imran Khan's old video where he explains how he hated India to the core until he came to India and got overwhelmed by love and admiration for him by Indians.
