Li Tianyi, 17, and four others took an 18-year-old woman they met in a Beijing nightclub to a hotel room in February, beat her and raped her, the court in Beijing ruled, in a verdict that was published over Sina Weibo, China's version of Twitter.
Li, who denied the charges at his trial last month, said he would appeal a sentence of ten years in prison. Three of the other minors were sentenced to three to four years in prison while the only adult in the group was sentenced to 12 years.
"In the course of committing the crime they have performed obscene acts to the victim, which should be seen as part of the criminal act of gang rape," the verdict read.
During the trial, Li became a focal point for public anger over the behaviour of spoilt princelings; the children of Chinese leaders who often behave as if they are above the law.
Li's father, 74-year-old Li Shuangjiang, is a household name in China, a singer in the People's Liberation Army entertainment corp. He was regarded as a major general until August, when new guidelines banned army singers from associating themselves with military ranks.
