Shahid Afridi equalled Sri Lankan Sanath Jayasuriya’s record of most sixes in a one-day career to lift Pakistan to 272-9 in the third day-night international against Zimbabwe here.
Afridi smashed six sixes and two fours in his swashbuckling 52-ball 85 to help Pakistan recover from a precarious 78-5 after the home team won the toss and opted to bat at Multan Stadium.
With his sixth hit over the boundary off spinner Keith Dabengwa, Afridi equalled Jayasuriya’s 245 sixes hit in 403 matches. This is Afridi’s 252nd match.

Well Done Afridi :smitten:

If only he could play sensible cricket now and then!

I dont think he has the patience for it. He will forever remain a hitter, who scores sometimes. If he could have had a little bit more control over his batting and a little more patience, he would have been a better batsman than Gilchrist and Sehwag. But Lala Afridi will forever be Lala Afridi. I also feel, that Pakistan always has too much reliance on him and everybody blasts him when things dont work out. He should be considered a tailender who can score a few runs at times. This way there will be no pressure on him and he just might play his part a bit better.

Sir, excitement shouldn't last for a long time. It is bad for heart.

Sir,
As an Indian I w'd wish for the excitement to last as little as possible. The Kanpur Carnage is 2005 didn't bore me to death but I wished for death nevertheless..

Hi,

Afridi looks a lot more fitter. Seems like he has lost some weight.

He started as a bowler and not as a batsman. In the last test series with india, I wished him to be in the team instead of Kaneria. I would also consider him to be a better captain than our current guy.

Too hot headed to be the captain. He is the bhai for the current team, respected. I am sure he is going to keep it that way, otherwise you know how all the blame goes to the captain. ;)

Arfirdi has done a great job. he shall go much beyond the record of Jaya Suria cause considering their ages Afridi has much more time than Suria in cricket. Don't forget both are different class of cricketers.

Afridi has been very consistent for quite a while now. He averaged 40, i think in 2007 and 2008 is going great. I think he finally gets it that he needs to shut people up with his performance and he looked very determined in the last outing. And i believe that Afridi's record will be here for quite a while. He still has many years left in him so he will easily make another 100 or even 150. and not many people start their carriers at 16 anymore, so his record will be quite safe.

Hope he continues!

Hi Webby,

I don't think that afridi is a hot head. He is a very capable captain of his team. He displays strength, he has an aura of success around him, he gets the crowd excited and thrilled. He is an ALPHA MALE---a perfect choice for a captain. how to use people like that---give them more responsibility and they will shine.
