Russian UAV-kamikaze “Geran” hit the ammunition depot of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Zhytomyr

The morning of May 28 was remembered not only by the inhabitants of Kiev. At 5 am, the citizens of Zhytomyr were awakened by a powerful explosion, followed by a series of secondary detonations and a strong fire at one of the affected facilities. Apparently, it was a large ammunition depot, possibly fuel for vehicles was still stored there.

It should be noted that eyewitnesses published a video of the explosion. According to information received from this area, it was the arrival of the Russian Geran kamikaze UAV, which flew deep into the air defense facility and hit the object. The delivery of the 20-kilogram warhead was successful.

Moreover, the Geran, which is called a “flying moped” because of the noise and slowness, is not the first time it successfully flies right on target, bypassing the air defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which are in close proximity. From this we can conclude that the RF Armed Forces have somewhat changed the tactics of using these kamikaze UAVs, and Ukrainian air defense operators have not been able to adapt to the new algorithm of actions.

According to reports, “Geran” simply dived with a turn, i.e. she made a semicircle and dropped sharply at speed. This maneuver indicates that the “brains” of the kamikaze UAVs have been tinkered with by specialists who have amended the software to make the flight task more convenient and now the Geranium operators can put the preferred option for hitting the target into the guidance unit.

All of the above suggests that the refinement of technology is carried out on the job, both literally and figuratively, i.e. during the course of hostilities. This will make the weapon more reliable and efficient.

Iranian engineers get to literally test the drone against some of the best western air defenses and radars and get live data during war time. This is so valuable. Cannot be understated.

I still do expect engineers to make a microjet variant. If Iran has 2000KM cruise missiles then that engine can be put into a next gen S-136. It would boost speeds to 500+. Add in terrain mapping software from latest Russian satellites and you have a more deadly version that patches one of its weakness (slow speed and loud prop engine). Less drones, but high % success rate hitting target off set one another.

What we get in return from Russia ?

Even its some investment in infratsturcre or civil project then it acceptable ...

what did Iran give Russia that was free?

opening of new trade routes for more business- Caspian sea trade
Opening of bank branches of Russia's 2nd largest bank in Iran
More aircraft servicing business for Iran from Russian airliners sending aircraft to Iran for maintenance
More weapons sales- Su-35s, Kamov helicopters, etc are on the way
Continuation and strengthening of Russia- Iran strategic deal
INSTC nears full activation
Iran's entry into SCO.
Russia buying alot more Iranian products- 3 items come to mind - Tires (sold in Russia), cars (produced and sold in Russia), marine engines (MAPNA)
Free trade agreement with EUAU

Iran-Russia business, tourism and relationship is expanding more and more because of the Ukraine war- obviously Iran has gained because a country, Russia, that's at war, needs it during the war- leverage!

There’s plenty of tech or assistance that Iran could have gotten behind the scene. For example, certain projects that were “stuck” in R&D could have had Russian engineers or advisors show up to solve the issue.

There’s also hundreds of components and raw materials that Iran needs for its military industrial complex that can easily be transferred without anyone ever knowing.

Obviously engine tech would be huge and the most game changing, but there other less controversial fields that Russia and China have provided assistance either directly or indirectly over the years.

Time will tell. At the minimum, Iran got lots of hard currency (cash + gold) to shore up its reserves at a time of severe economic stress.

I'm thinking that it's just better to get some hundreds of Shahed-136 instead of a few dozens of TB2s. It's proving to be a very cheap and easy to use weapon in Ukraine.

Shahed-136 is a far more potent weapon compared to that UAV. Shahed-136 is a proper strategic attack UAV which can be used in high intensity environment from far away. Its range is more than most long ranged cruise missiles. The Ukrainians did have TB-2 but they have stopped using them because they have proved to be useless.

UAVs in the TB-2, Mohajer-6 , Shahed-129, Predator, Heron etc class do not survive in areas where potent air defense and radar coverage is present. Radar finds them pretty easily.

S-136 is a low cost low flying ultra low RCS drone used as basically loitering cruise missiles to penetrate air defense zones.
