Shabnam rape case culprit Farooq Bandial joins PTI

KHUSHAB: Social media erupted in outrage and disbelief after Farooq Bandial, a man involved in 1979 rape of renowned actress Shabnam, on Thursday met Imran Khan and joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), ARY News reported.






According to details, Farooq Bandial, a man convicted by a military court in 1979 in the rape and robbery case at then popular actress Shabnam Ghosh’s house, met Imran Khan in Khushab district of Punjab province and announced to join PTI.

Bandial, along with his friends, was sentenced to death but his death sentence was later changed to life sentence after his family reportedly pressurized Shabnam to ‘forgive’ him.

The actress later left the country and is now living in Bangladesh.

As journalists, party supporters and general public expressed their anger over a convicted rapist’s acceptance by a party which demands accountability for all, PTI spokesman Fawad Chaudhry came up with a clarification.

“Chairman PTI Imran Khan has taken notice of the development after which a convicted criminal became a part of PTI. (PTI’s Chief of Staff) Naeemul Haque will present facts regarding the issue before the Chairman in three days,” Fawad Chaudhry tweeted.

Local PML-N leader sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for raping minor girl

TAXILA: Session court on Tuesday sentenced a local Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader to 20 years imprisonment along with Rs 100,000 fine for raping a minor girl.

Additional and Sessions Judge Ahmed Arshad Mahmood announced the verdict against the accused as well as his aide, a female doctor that had performed abortion on the 13 year old girl.

The local court acquitted the two brothers of the accused for lack of evidence against them.

The convict’s were arrested after the court’s verdict who were earlier granted interim bail.

Earlier in 2015, the victim’s mother had filed a case against the local leader and his aides.

The mother had argued that the accused who is the cousin of the victim’s father along with his two brothers had raped the minor girl at gunpoint.

The prime convict upon being informed about the girl’s pregnancy forced the girl into abortion by a female doctor at a private clinic.
