I am merely looking at it from a legal perspective. The North East did not have separate Prime Minister like Kashmir did - also it did not sign a Treaty of Accession (as far as I know) - please correct me if I am wrong. From what I understand it was always part of British India and thus directly incorporated into the Indian Union. The Indian Independence Act passed by the British Parliament gave the Princely states the right to choose to remain independent or merge with the dominions of India or Pakistan. That's why Vallabhbhai Patel's contribution to the current length and breadth of India is absolutely unparalleled. So, this has nothing to do ethnic diversity or geographical distance.

demanding autonomy( North East ; Tamil Nadu ; Punjab )

The UPA govt developed cold feet immediately and that report was thrown in the dust bin

This is NOT the 1950 s where you can AMEND the constitution to ONE man's whims and fancies
and give some state special status and also NOT EXPECT other states to follow suit

Immediately there will be country wide agitations

forget war time , even in peace time - Indian soldiers are notorious for raping, killing and looting in Kashmir, Manipur, Assam, Tamil Eelam etc

this is all BS. because---
1. the author has no credentials.
2. nothing bad can happen to any Kashmiri if army is there.
3. army people don't torture people, not even for legitimate reasons.
4. the author is talking about allegation, who gives a flying f*** about allegation until they are proven in indian court, in presence of the "alleged perpetrators".
5. all allegation of rapes are not true. all the soldiers are washed in milk before joining the army. this makes their brains permanently "rape free".
6. kunan poshpora NEVER happened. its just a figment of imagination. all the women in the village are scarring their own "izzat" just to "be-izzat" the "benevolent army". how insensitive.
