Whereas, the Pakistani state encourages such discrimination. That's the difference.

Don't make stuff up. You make it sound like there is a clause in the Constitution of Pakistan that states that Christians should be forced to work in sewage related jobs.

State doesn't encourage anything. These things are are present at a local level in the population nobody is denying that, but to insinuate that the State actually encourages it shows how little you know about Pakistan and would rather indulge in mud slinging for brownie points.

Reading the article

So getting an education will allow them to not do this job.

I generally respect NYT but this just seems like a hit piece hired by some Indian Incel.

Every Pakistani will agree that any discrimination based on race or religion is wrong and even in the article it shows that people are working against discrimination that is happening.

This is a really really sad thing.

The sewer cleaners should be given protective gear and paid the highest. What a height of oppression. People like us will not do it even for a million rupees but these poor people do it for pennies!!

It's not difficult for the government to take care of this small segment of our society. Imran Khan alone can cough up money to make their lives better.

Regardless of Christian or Muslim or whoever the hell does it, it's a really really bad job that should be extremely well paid and protected.
