Several killed as gunmen attack Tunisia tourist hotel
At least seven killed near Sousse, with ongoing exchanges of gunfire reported between attackers and security forces.
26 Jun 2015 12:03 GMT

At least seven people have been killed after a tourist hotel near the Tunisian town of Sousse was attacked by gunmen, officials said.

Ongoing exchanges of gunfire were being reported between the attackers and security forces, sources told Al Jazeera.

Al Jazeera's Nazanine Moshiri, reporting from Tunis, said that local reports indicated that gunmen may have specifically targeted tourists at the resort - but that the reports have not yet been confirmed.

There were no other details immediately available.

Tunisia has been on high alert since March when gunmen attacked the Bardo museum in Tunis, killing a group of foreign tourists in one of the worst attacks in a decade in the North African country.

Our correspondent said that the new attack would be another blow to the country's economy, which relies heavily on tourism.

It seems than it's cooking a big war in Middle East, first launching strikes against and ISIL and after... against Saudi Arabia.

Three disgusting terrorists attacks today and Iran "nuclear deal" is nearing.

Do you remember when USA started to bomb Syria several months ago, without US congress permission, without UN permission, without Syria gov permission, three times illegal. True power in USA, USA deep state, control Obama and control congress, then.. why they started to bomb Syria without US congress permission?.
I think it was a "drill", a drill in order to know if in the future they can decide a fast attack against sovereign country without permission of congress, a country like Saudi Arabia, when a Iran deal will be reached.

It's only a guess, of course :p:.

do we have some kinda MK Ultra going on with terrorists?

It appears that most if not all the victims are European tourists. The same countries that bombed Libya to oust Gaddafi are now the primary victims of daesh terror which filled the power vacuum voided by the Gaddafi government. Funny how what goes around comes around.

Condolences @Mootaz-khelifi @Tunisian Marine Corps @Mouath14 etc.

Shocking news and very bad new for the Tunisian tourism sector. Tunisia has so much to offer tourist wise like most other Arab countries and to see a few lunatics destroy much of that must be painful. MIllions upon millions of Westerners and others have been visiting Tunisia for years and now I am afraid that many of them will think twice before traveling.

But as I always say there are mostly always underlying reasons for those few terrorists to roam around. Mostly bound in unemployment, and a sense of injustice. Lot's of factors and it must be studied and combated. The ideology of senseless killing.

It's making them no favors whether among locals or the remaining world. I don't understand their logic/thought process or goals. Very alien.

RIP to the victims...they're trying and (and unfortunately managing) to destroy the tourism sector...:(

They thrive on poverty, misery and fear, as that's the only way their vision of 9th century Islam can be accomplished...

Yes, because ISIS & terrorism didn't exist prior to Gaddafi, and it's not like westerners were targeted before.
Your nickname suits you very well indeed.

PS: funny that you mentioned "what goes around comes around" - make a guess how all this terror will come around to them in the end

Shocking indeed. Sousse is a beautiful city. That joint Arab military force is the need of the hour more than never. Increased cooperation in terms of intelligence gathering too.

15.2% (according to the article below) is the total contribution of travel and tourism to Tunisia's GDP. That's a lot.

Also almost 500.000 jobs are supported by the tourism sector.

IS has established itself in Libya which wouldn't have happened if Gaddafi was there. They didn't give a damn what happened to Libya, they just wanted him out. Now look whats happening. You reap what you sow.

It's simple really. Religion. Why would a guy like jihad john for example, who comes from a great family and is a trained computer programmer join IS and start beheading people? It's religion pure and simple. The same reason why Shia mosques are being blown up, the same reason why millenia ago untold tens of thousands of people killed each other because they have different religious beliefs.

37 people killed, foreigners and Tunisians. RIP. Seems like militants are traveling back from Syria. Now that ISIS stronghold Raqqa is under threat due to YPG/FSA offensive plus intense coalition air strikes they are targeting Westerners. This is a daily struggle for Tunisia and many attacks have been prevented by their security forces but don't get reported much.

That's exactly what happened when Taliban was formed in Afghanistan.....ISIL in Syria....now this cancer will spread before it cure....

rest in peace

It kind of does make sense in a twisted way.

They know how important the tourism industry is for Tunisia, so they attacked tourists.

They want Tunisia's economy to become weak, since these extremists have much more success in impoverished regions.

The goal of the extremists, is to turn everyone against each other. They want to turn non-Muslims against Muslims, and vice versa. That's why they are so eager to broadcast their ever more shocking actions to the rest of the world. That's why they shout the name of their God before every attack.

They want the world to see "Muslims did this", hoping that non-Muslims would react with persecution and discrimination against Muslims.

After that, they will turn around and way: "See? We were right all along".

And unfortunately, they seem to be winning. Tensions between Muslims and non-Muslims, Sunni and Shia, are increasing every day.

The cycle needs to stop, the world can't fall for their tricks. It is NOT Muslims vs non-Muslims, or Sunni vs Shia.

It is normal human beings (both Muslims and non-Muslims) united together, against the extremists. That's the only real solution.
