Setback for PML-N as MNA from Gujranwala leaves party to join PTI

GUJRANWALA: A member of the National Assembly associated with the ruling Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) announced on Tuesday to part ways with the party, ARY News reported.

Lawmaker Mian Tariq Mehmood, elected from NA-98 (Gujranwala-IV), ditched the ruling party along with a large number of representatives of the local government elected on PML-N tickets.

Mehmood was elected from the National Assembly seat in Gujranwala in the 2013 general elections.

He didn’t disclose the reason behind his defection, nor did he announce his plans whether he will join any other party in future.

The legislator said he would contest the upcoming general elections against Defence Minister Khuram Dastagir Khan from a NA seat in Gujranwal.

The minister was elected from NA-96 (Gujranwal-II) in the 2013 polls.

Among the local government representatives who deserted the party are chairmen and vice chairmen of three municipal committees. The chairmen and vice chairmen of 13 union councils also bade adieu to the party.

Two former MPAs – Mazhar Javed and Ghulam Sarwar – too announced to leave the party.

It is routine matter. Whenever a guy gets signals that he will not get ticket in next election. He leaves the party on the base of "high moral" ground which were forgotten since 2013.

ISLAMABAD: A PML-N MNA from Gujranwala announced his decision to join Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday.

Mian Tariq Mahmood, the sitting MNA from Gujranwala, met PTI Chairman Imran Khan at Bani Gala before joining the party.

Mian Mazhar, a former Punjab lawmaker from the same constituency, also joined the Imran Khan’s party.

The two leaders separately met Jahangir Khan Tareen.

Speaking on this occasion, Imran Khan said that he would soon embark on a tour of Punjab to mobilize his supporters in the next few days.

Welcoming the PML-N MNA Mian Tariq Mahmood, he said people have decided to vote for change. – SAMAA

really would depend how much effort IK put on grass root level, if he does jalsa in every district with prominent choosen person (doesn't need to be old person but someone who people know) he will have a chance
but seems impossible to do over 200 jalsas now..the time was last 4 years

Noon league almost certainly used Government machinery and tax payers money to arrange all the jalsas. Totally corrupt people.

If I aik hits big urban cities of Central punjab any thing can happen but I agree with u for the rest.

intersting point is why urban areas want jalsas..they have TV
IK didnt do any major jalsas in urban KPK, people simply voted for him

How it is a causality? He lost his constituency in new census. Half of his constituency went into another constituency where Khurran Dastgir is strong. And N league don't want to give him ticket against Khurram. So he went for other option. there is no morality in Politics.
