Serving IAF officer moves court, demands scrapping of MiG-21

IAF should have just gotten more mirages or Su-30's no fighter jet is made to fly 50+ years wtf was your air force development staff doing smoking ganja?

IAF has reasons to stick to it and not go for LCA. One of them, as have been mentioned, quick reaction time. Lets not get into Mig vs LCA. If at all, it is ministry's fault for not increasing procurement speed.

IAF cannot spare himself by blaming ADA, HAL & MOD . They also guilty equal. They have not appoint dedicated expert wing who closely monitors development & give regular feedback , finishing prototype they come with a fault which can rectified earlier. Which causes more delay.

So what are they planning now. As I am looking to see MiG-21s being scrapped up ASAP.

Will going to see old Jaguars from France or Mirage-2000s/MiG-29s from Russia....

All the Asians see Indian MiG-21s as flying coffins.

My source is some interview of a officer, posted here in PDF. Tejas was supposed to take the role of interdiction. But the engine, as we all know, proved to be insufficient. I don't know the status of new engine, but even that was ordered quite late. What has IAF to do with this impractical and sluggish approach of HAL/ADA?

IAF is a direct participant in the Tejas program.

It joined hands from early 2000s and took control to oversee the development of Tejas.

ADA/HAL are slow I agree but please understand why.

Everytime they come up with an upgrade, IAF steeps the requirements up to unprecedented levels.

They want an F-16, and F-22, an F-35, a Su-30MKI and a Fulcrum all combined in one for that price.

How the hell is it going to do that in a shoestring budget initially allocated? Now, even that price has steeped.

J-10 also had a lot of flaws and so did the MiGs and Sukhois. But did it stop Chinese and Russians from inducting them and letting them develop in a phased manner?

At least the pilots are safe like that in peacetime.

Not one crash has happened on Tejas even in testing phases. What does that tell you about the quality of the jet?

It is a reliable platform with a good potential in the future. It just requires minor tweaks.

What makes you think that IAF can field MiG-21s against PAF and PLAAF?

They won't last an hour today.

The Tejas even with its limitations is a new jet and is capable of carrying modern missiles and is apt for the role.

IAF is just delaying it so that more foreign maal comes into the air force after years and the top brass gets a fat commission.

One word: Corruption so that foreign imports come in and the top guys get money all while the delayed indigenous programs are just a public façade.

Don't you think that would be unfair?

He is right.

MOD will go against the man even if he's right because it will hurt the babus the most.

Knowing the pathetic Indian system of Ministers ruling over the national law, it is unlikely that this will yield any result unless there's a drastic change in the short run and that the Court orders serious action which the MOD has to comply.

IAF is just a tool of MOD and it is for the defense minister to blame.

Most people here call him a saint but he is nothing more than a yes madam G puppet who despite his own good image, cannot be a decisive, far-sighted DM.

A saint sitting atop thieves and letting the loot continue is no saint.

I'm not sure if that entirely accurate; the Tejas doesn't offer anything that an F-16, a J-10, a Mirage 2000 or a Jf-17 doesn't. Sure some of them might be better than it in some parameters just as its going to be better than some of them in other parameters but I dunno if that constitutes as a Raptor, an MKI & a Fulcrum combined in one !

As I've understood, judging by the posts of most informed members here, its the continued demand of going 'indigenous' with everything no matter...whatever, is whats keeping the Tejas (and other Defense Programs) from seeing induction !

If you can't do something right now, instead of putting the project on hold & creating a supporting industry & the relevant competencies for it & then building the dam thing is whats kept it grounded, as opposed to letting the bird fly albeit with some foreign components & then when in 10-20 years time you've mastered the skill needed to go fully indigenous - Go for it !

It will probably be thrown out of court and the Officer will face some repercussions from his own force.

No. It wont be. The IAF and GOI has to answer this petition in Delhi high court as it is through "Violation of basic Fundamental Right". most probably both will accept the need to shelf the 21s but will show unvavilty of other means to full-fill security requirements. And will promise court that they are on fast track procedure to do so and the time line set for that is 2017.
Court will be happy with the argument and will order IAF not to use 21s unnessesarily. Thats it.

The officer is already declared not fit for flying so he might end up in maintainace command.

+ Plus many of IAF personal agree with him so he wont face too much heat.

You & your expectation:hitwall:
Who told you this kind of BS
Jaguar is a ground attack aircraft which we have 108 in numbers & there are no plan to buy second hand aircrafts.

But if the IAF had decided to scrap all of the MiG-21s then Jaguars and Mirage-2000s are the only options. OK

But let us know if you have any other options in place.... as LCA will take longer time.

How is a ground attack fighter with nil air to air capability going to replace an interdicter?

Jaguar is ground attack aircraft & we have more 6 squadron of this aircraft. Mirage 2000 production line was closed & IAF have no interest in 2nd hand aircraft now.
So, only option is kick up production of LCA.
