Serial Blasts in Jaipur

80 killed, 150 wounded in Jaipur blasts

JAIPUR: Terror struck yet again — this time in Jaipur, at the busiest market, at the busiest hour, aimed with chilling precision to kill, maim, terrify and cleave the country. At last count, the toll was 80 killed, and with over 150 injured, it could go up. (Watch)

The first blast took place at 7.20pm on Tuesday in the crowded Johari Bazaar and within 15 minutes seven more blasts occurred in adjoining areas in the walled city — near the Hanuman Mandir, which was milling with devotees, near Hawa Mahal, at Badi Chaupad, Tripolia Bazar and Chandpole.

Within minutes, the entire market was a picture of total chaos. People ran screaming, jumping over dead bodies and severed limbs, skirting mangled rickshaws and damaged cars. The piercing wail of ambulance sirens replaced the firecrackers that would go off every other day in Jaipur to celebrate its victorious Rajasthan Royals T20 team.

Terrorists displaying the telltale tactics of Lashkar-e-Taiba and SIMI struck with bombs planted on cycles and cycle-rickshaws. In the past three years, this is the 21st terror attack outside Jammu & Kashmir. Chief minister Vasundhara Raje said, "We will not tolerate this."

Police later arrested a man from Mumbai. Rajasthan's director general of police, A S Gill, said the attacks were designed to cause maximum damage and the sites had been picked with care. He confirmed that bombs had been planted on brand- new Avon cycles. Similar cycle blasts on September 8, 2006, in Malegaon, Maharashtra, had killed 38 people during a Muslim festival day. Bombs on cycles were also used for the attack on the Faizabad court.

The Malegaon attacks were blamed on LeT and the banned Students' Islamic Movement of India.

The Jaipur attack might have been worse had three unexploded bombs not been defused in the walled city area. Another bomb was defused in the upmarket Raja Park area, triggering fresh fears. Mercifully, the city was keeping calm.

These blasts are an interesting departure.

Smaller cities are now the target.

Good that things continue to be calm.

my condolences to the people of rajasthan. my family, before partition, lived in Jodhpur in rajasthan. although, we were originally from UP state.

rajasthan is a very peaceful place where muslims and hindus get along very well, they even come together in ajmer. this is very sad, unfortunate, and painful indeed. I hope the peace continues to thrive there, insha'Allah.

.
Thanks for all your support guys. I have been talking to a couple of my friends from Jaipur...one of them heard the blasts from his home, but thankfully he wasn't anywhere near the blast sites.

A very tragic incident indeed. My condolence to the families of the victims. A concerted effort is needed to combat terrorism.

What's HuJi's beef in India?

actually dear if they have or not but its become easy to blam Bangladeshis now a days in india.
i guess its time for the Indian policy and other agencies to have some soul searching and try to find out the truth in earlier cases. unfortunatly they have no clue about other such cases hence its very easy to shift the responsibility by pointing fingers at others.
In the past it was ISI they would immediatly point finger at but as we ourselves are passing through such a bad situation and it is difficult to blam them.

Its appalling to see people here only worried about who will get blamed rather than showing sympathy for the innocent killed many families ruined.

We must await the investigations!

Anyway, sympathy is always there.

It fact, it has become so routine that the tears have dried and well out no more.

I believe the US is getting involved and will be sending a team to investigate!

My condolences to the families who lost loved ones. This was a horrid attack.

These terrorists attacks r highly condenmable. My condolances to the families who had suffered in this trageic incident.

Jihad is not to attack for no reason. HuJi has reason to bomb Bangladesh but not India.

HuJi is an anti-establishment militant group. It aims to establish Islamic rule in Bangladesh.

They got it wrong.

.
We get killed on a monthly basis from these bombs. We are appalled about that and the lack of sympathy from any other nation over all that as well.

Of course we're sorry for the loss of innocent lives, but would be sorrier if we allowed some incompetent investigators to run away with a false story. Stop lying about who the real bombers are and we'll start feeling sorry for the real victims.

Gala daba ke kehtay hain k uff kyun kia? (loosely translated: After strangling the throat you complain about an ouch?)
