Serbia, Pakistan agree to sign military deal

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan and Serbia on Thursday agreed on military deal besides entering into Preferential Trade Agreement and establishing joint ministerial commission, said a Defence Ministry spokesman.

According to officials, the agreements in this connection would be signed during Serbian delegation’s visit to Pakistan.

Defence Minister Naveed Qamar who is in Serbia also extended invitation to the Serbian president and prime minister to visit Pakistan to further deepen the ties. The officials said they would soon visit Pakistan after accepting the invitation.

Qamar met the highest leadership and command in the House of Guards in Topcider, Belgrade. The minister is leading a four-member delegation to Serbia. Serbian Deputy PM Aleksandar Vucic said that Pakistan was and would remain a friend of Serbia and has always been on the side of Pakistan in the international context. During the visit, Qamar met Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic, Prime Minister Ivica Dacic, the deputy prime minister, Defence Minister Aleksandar Vucic and Speaker of the Serbian National Assembly Nebojsa Stefanovic. The Defence Minister also visited various defence installations and witnessed a demonstration held by Serbian Special Forces.

The visit is aimed at identifying avenues for cooperation between the defence establishments of the two countries. In this context, a prospective Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of defence also came under discussion. The Minister also broached issues of opening of Serbian Embassy in Islamabad, concluding Preferential Trade Agreement and holding of Joint Ministerial Commission. The Serbian dignitaries assured their cooperation and stated that these issues will be addressed at priority.

Topic of the meeting held with Serbian president and deputy PM was the promotion of bilateral cooperation in different fields, and the two sides talked about the military-to-military, military-economic and military-educational cooperation.

So are Serbian weapons better alternative to Chinese weapons? I am sure they are that's why there seems to be so much interest in the offer...

Yeah Serbian weapons are basically Russian weapon and Russia refused to sell Pakistan weapons, so this is a loophole for Pak to get Russian weapons.

.
Fellas! take it easy on the surbians!

The shopping list is not that long.We are trying to improve our relations with every country.

Serbia is no exception.

.
If you all don't mind i will give you an answer, to the question: "What Serbian military industry has to offer?"

For start this is a short video representation which was held recently when we had a visit from Dmitry Rogozin:

Russians will help us with our new factory of advanced battle systems, in which we are supposed to produce self propelled howitzers like Nora B52, armored vehicles like Lazar and Lazar 2 (it is in process of developing with a help from Russians), BOV M10 and M11, new multiple rocket launchers, advanced rocket systems like ALAS and LORANA.....

This is the video from factory opening:

And that is just an introduction, i plan to represent most of our products if that is ok? I would not like to spam.

And here are a few pictures:

ALAS (Advanced Light Attack System) and LORANA

115916_218259065_Partner%202011_114.jpg

Highly lethal Advanced Light Attack System represents system imagined as fire & forget and fire, observe and update, multipurpose, TV guided weapon system. Basic idea was derived from long engineering experience in the design of aeronautical and rocket systems, as well as following the latest world trends in the field of the unmanned systems for different applications.

ALAS missile system is intended primarily for an anti-tank, anti-ship combat and land attack bombardment missions. It can be launched from light land vehicles, small ships or helicopters, utilizing a fiber optic data link to transmit and receive commands. Important application would be to conduct surgical strikes until heavier forces are available. Using its range it should extend the ALAS close-combat kill zone from 5 to 15 km and up to 25km from the first combat line.

The difference between ALAS and LORANA is that Lorana has a solid-propellant rocket sustainer motor in place of ALAS’s TMM-40 turbojet. The rocket motor gives Lorana a higher fly-out speed, but range is reduced from the ALAS’s 25km to 9km. Lorana has a 10kg mono-HEAT or tandem warhead. Other differences concern the flight surfaces.

Does Serbia manufacture most of it's own weapons or imports from elsewhere?

Nice, did Serbia manufacture and design this on it's own? I like the specs maximum range 600 m, hit prob, system prob, tripod and shoulder modes, laser beam riding, improved anti-jamming protection, all good features.

• All terrains fighting capabilities including urban areas because missile can be launched from confined space;

This seems like an impressive short-range ATGM, really sophisticated.

. .
Pakistan is currently using the Baktar-Shikan ATGM (a variant of the HJ-8) manufactured by Kahuta Research Lab. There are variants of the Baktar-Shikan one which is portable, one for armored vehicles, another an air-launch variant equipped on PAA AH-1 Cobras.

Ironically enough the Baktar-Shikan was used in the Yugoslav War used by Bosniac Muslims to attack the Serbian M-84 tank, it proved to be a formidable ATGM though I'm not sure of the exact number of Serbian tanks destroyed by this weapon, conflicting data on this. Bosniac Army called them the Pakistani "Green Arrow" ATGM, and there were used throughout Bosnian villages and towns and successfully damaged and destroyed a considerable number of Serbian tanks.

By the way no offense intended, just sharing Baktar-Shikan's operational history.

.
All those weapons are domestically designed and produced. Sometimes we do import some parts, but we are trying to produce most of it by ourselves. Of course we did borrow some of the ideas :D, for example ALAS is similar to canceled Polyphem missile....
