Security 'left us to be sitting ducks' claims Broad

Actually, I was impressed by how calm the Sri Lankans were. They were a credit to Sri Lanka.

I thought Muralitharan's gesture was good also. He's a class cricketer.

Sir, u didn't notice, player like Mendis serve in Lankan military ....

. . . . .
I saw this picture in some other forum, they are Indian tamils not Sri Lankans.

If you say so by the way I heard in the news that alot of people were actually satisfied by the recovery of the security but are their any other players or people that said such things.

.
Follow up the news and you would notice that the police cheifs all of them were sacked and governor rule was imposed you being a citizen of Srilanka and me being of Pakistan I do apologize for the attacks on your players and I think every citizen apologizes for this but you have to say the recovery was excellent or else you saw what happened in Mumbai.

Whoa!!

Where does Mumbai come in this ?

In mumbai , one was captured alive while the rest are in hell.

In lahore, they strolled away.....

I do appreciate how diff it would be to defend a situation like this, but its not about mumbai or lahore.

Its about us all squabbling while SL, Pak , BD & India is being held to ransom.

.
my dear friend they will soon be giving their accounts but this is not a blame game im 100% sure this is not been done by any pak terroristt there must be indian hand is invoved and in few days INSHAHALLAH u will hear good news this is fact that india was unhappy of tour of pak of srilanka do u agree

why india did not tour not for security because of mumbai attacks now they are saying that because of security we have not gone for tour

and what is happening in sri lanka india is only one country which supports tamil tigers hiddenly

one more think PCB should buy Bullet proof busses now Cougar type of truck is very good for escort no bullets and no launcehers attacks can harm that truck and give cobra helicopter cover to convoy of bus i dont see any terrorist will want to come infront of convoy ever again

.
time always not be the same dude it will change today we are in firing line fine but india and lankans will be the next target and im sure tamils are planning same attacks in lanka too

.
Yeah, me too, they got away safe because the Bus driver accelerated, however, the officers gave their lives because they KNEW that the whole world would be watching their beloved country and that they could not afford to slip away or show a sign of weakness, they gave their life to protect our name and to protect the Lankans.
I wonder, will these players be any safe in their own country where fights are on-going with the Tamil Tigers. :undecided:

Police officers attacked the 12 terrorist in broad day light with no civilians in between and still the 12 managed to walk away unhurt. Definitly exchnage of fire never happened. Might be by the time the police recovered from the shock at surpirse attack the terrorists left or they were specifically told not the hurt the 'friends'.

.
To be honest, his statement defies logic.

If all the policemen simply ran away, how come noone was able to blow up or board the bus and finish off the cricketers.

There was clearly resistance from the police.

I'll agree with Broad to the extent they should have cordoned off routes, and taken it more seriously.

But he's simply wrong that a policeman throwing himself on top of him is a cowardly act. That policeman was taking evasive action, and then most likely firing back. That is what they're taught to do. Not commit suicide. All in all, I think the policeman did well in the situation. No Sri Lankan was hurt more than minorly, so they clearly handled it.

I dont know the location where the attack took place at all. If there are small roads in the viscinity (which lahore is famous for) then it may still have been possible for the perpetrators to commit the crime. i think Broad,s statement is contrary to the actual situation on the ground. i think it is difficult to respond with presence of mind ot a shocking situation like that. It was not the fault of the policeman, that he could n0ot drive the Bus. Eventually his Bacon(or LAmb/Beef)was saved by ANOTHER POLICE MAN who drove the driver away. He was also CONCERNED ABOUT HOW THE DRIVER WAS UNCEREMONIOUSLY SHOVED ASIDE!!! well you cant have gentlemanly behaviour in a situation like that! The poor man was already dead, and rightly__ the policeman,s responsibility was to get them away from the scene.I think our guys did a wonderful job under trying conditions.
By the way i am responding to Mr broad,s statement on Mobile news which I saw yesterday. So if you see additional bits that are not mentioned in the article above, you know why!!

LAHORE: A Pakistani official admitted that "very vivid" security lapses allowed gunmen to ambush Sri Lanka's cricket team and escape...
The acknowledgment followed allegations by a referee caught up in Tuesday's attack that police abandoned him like a "sitting duck." Video from the area showed the gunmen sauntering down a deserted side street, apparently leaving with no fear of pursuit. ....The attack occurred despite government pledges to give the Sri Lankan players and match officials the same level of protection afforded a head of state.

Lahore commissioner Khusro Pervez admitted in an interview with local media that the gunmen should have been battled by ``back-up police support which didn't arrive.''

``All convoys are provided outer cordons, but in this case the outer cordon did not respond or it was not enough. The vehicles used for escorting the Sri Lankan convoy were not adequate,'' the Dawn newspaper quoted him as saying to a television news show owned by the same media company.

``There are certain security lapses which are very vivid and very clear,'' he said.

Police have given conflicting accounts of the investigation. One top police official said several suspects had been taken into custody in connection with the attack. Hours later, however, another denied anyone had been detained or even questioned. Officials reached on Thursday said they were pursuing clues in several cities.

``There was not a sign of a policeman anywhere,'' Broad said Wednesday after flying back to Britain. ``They had clearly left the scene and left us to be sitting ducks.''

He did not say how he managed to escape. Other witnesses described police trading fire with the gunmen for about 15 minutes, but at least one of the Sri Lankan players said the attackers appeared to fire at will at the bus.

``They were not under pressure ... nobody was firing at them,'' team captain Mahela Jayawardene said after returning to Sri Lanka.

Players said their bus stopped for around 90 seconds while under attack, before the driver stepped on the gas and drove them to the safety of the stadium. Broad and the players said Pakistani officials had promised to give them ``presidential style'' security as part of efforts to convince them to make the trip.

``I am extremely angry we were promised high-level security and in our hour of need that security vanished and we were left just open to anything,'' Broad said.

Several Pakistani officials denied that, as did the country's top cricket official.

``How can Chris Broad say this when six policemen were killed?'' Pakistan Cricket Board chief Ijaz Butt told The Associated Press. He declined further comment, saying he wanted to speak with Broad first.

The convoy transporting the Sri Lankan team and cricket officials was surrounded by police vehicles at the front, rear and side, and took the same route each day of the five-day test match against Pakistan's national team, authorities said. It was not clear how many police officers were in the convoy.

The surveillance video, broadcast on Pakistani television, showed several attackers apparently escaping down a side street on motorcycles while brandishing weapons. Three were shown walking along the middle of the street, apparently in no fear that they were being chased by police.

None of the gunmen was killed, and all apparently escaped. The assault bore similarities to November's three-day terrorist rampage in the Indian financial capital of Mumbai. The Pakistani group Lashkar-e-Taiba has been blamed for that attack, in which 10 gunmen targeted hotels, a Jewish center and other sites, killing 164 people.

Pakistani authorities have since cracked down on the group, which is based in eastern Pakistan.

Well these guys could not have been very friendly if they killed 5 of the elite Police!!! I think you are looking at the situation from coloured glasses;). If you want to imply something, why not say it openly. i dont know whether ou have ever been exposed to such in incident. Let me tell you it takes a lot of guts to put your head up in a situation like this and respond. A lot of enemy kills in this situation are coincidental or Lucky shots. The Police men were exposed and did not have any cover, whereas the perpetrators planned and executed this attack so the surprise factor was with them.

They should used chopper to pick up the cricketers from PC and then land them in Stadium or Provide Military Commandos who would have easily taken care of the situation.Regardless, 5 Police Officers still gave their life to save this prick.

All that would happen would be that theterrorists would use SAMS. It is essentially futile. If there is a will there is a way! You may use military commandos but i think the surprise factor would still give the culprits a better chance than the commandos. Much as i hat e our brave policemen die, I would hate it even more if some of our elitse comandos were to die!!!!
