Cmon dear... These are not death traps.... These are perfectly good vehicles.....

Tomorrow people might call tanks as death traps as well once they get started to be hit by ATGM teams. It's much difficult to get out of a tank then a Toyota hilux.

No one can equip a whole army with MRAP.
moreover, MRAP doesn't have the cross country mobility and ability to go on steep slopes like a normal Toyota does.

It's just the nature of COIN that casualties occur like this.

so how many MRAPS do we employ and how many MRAPs did US army employed in Afghanistan
certainly we are poor but not that poor are we?

These vehicles , or any wheeled vehicle, is not made to withstand an IED.

IEDs can play havoc with a tank as well.

But again, as we were discussing on some other thread as well, it is all about priorities.

Money is limited, so we have to choose some out of many in order to counter the greater threats.

VT4s, subs, destroyers, aircraft, gunships, drones, etc are pretty costly things.

But then, it's not denying your point.....the protection of infantry soldiers on the move against terrorist attacks..... Which still remains a weakness and gets exploited.

With respects I have read that PA during 1971 developed tactics to protect their light vehicles from IEDS up to some extent by covering lower area with sand bags , cannot recall complete tactics, in similar way during suppression SIkh insurgency the Indian forces used tractors with armor plating and other stuff for protection. We should have enough resources to strengthen the lower portion of pick ups with metal sheets or other stuff to increase survival rate in case of IEDS, similarly some thick metal sheets should be used on side ways and even metal plated roof in areas where sniper threat from mountain tops is there. The use of drones and MI35s for scanning and removal of threats near roads in Baluchistan before PA convoy movement should be achievable tasks. PA/Law enforcement agencies should take steps in limited resources to improve survival rate.

(There are rumors that PA is getting 25 more Mi35s the question is where they shall be deployed).
