Security concerns: Navy battleships moved away from Karachi

Yea...now everyone knows they are at Ormara.....how is that safer than Karachi?

.
The day the Mehran base attack happened, there were 4 Oerlikon guns placed right at the main gate of 502 Workshop in Rwp, the Commander immediately ordered the guns to be moved inside warehouses and be dispersed. So all of the military is using dispersion as a tactic.

Away from populated areas.. in an area that is monitored more easily than karachi..
eg.. In Karachi a guy walking past the fence is a minute by minute occurrence.
In Ormara.. if they see a guy by the fence.. they should check it out.

All military garrisons and bases near cities should be moved out..

.
all this do India
our high officials are working for India
that's why they are not blaming india

The ISI HQ in islamabad right next to Kashmir Highway, the NESCOM hospital adn facilities near METRO in islamabad, the 502,503 workshops in Rwp, Dhamial base in Rwp near lalkurti or lalazar, Well the whole of Rwp cantt. Rwp Cantt is difficult, but other institutions need to be moved, The ISI HQ and NESCOM facilities have caused the whole road in front of them to be blocked. Causing a major nuisance.

Although.. the big question is.. what will happen to all that real estate once they do??

Naval Fleet moved to Ormara: Security Risk

The Pakistan Navy is keeping its main battleships away from Karachi, and has moved them to another port in Ormara, Balochistan, as security threats continue, sources in the navy say.

The navy sent its warships away from its main base in Karachi as a “precautionary measure” after a 16-hour siege of its main naval airbase, PNS Mehran. The commando-style gun and rocket-propelled grenade attacks resulted in the destruction of two P3C Orion airplanes – which were key naval assets.

Since the terrorist attack, battleships have been stationed in Ormara, navy sources say.

According to one person familiar with the matter, the navy chief ordered the immediate movement of an entire fleet after the PNS Mehran attack keeping in view the all-time high security threats, which continue to loom even today. The May 22 base attack occurred just weeks after three navy buses were bombed in the city on April 26 and April 28.

However, another senior navy official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that not an entire fleet, but “definitely quite a few” warships had to be moved to Ormara for security reasons after the attack. He added that, despite the movement, Karachi remains secure since there are other naval assets in place guarding the city.

A Pakistan Navy spokesperson declined to comment on the report and said that the navy does not comment on “operational details.”

Senior retired navy and air force officials, however, welcomed the move and termed the navy chief’s decision as “pragmatic” and “positive”.

Retired Vice Admiral Tanvir Ahmed said that one of the golden rules in warfare, especially when facing a threat from an unknown enemy, is to disperse your assets in as many bases as you can. “Never put all your eggs in one basket,” he said.

Ahmed said it would be wrong to portray that the navy felt so threatened by four terrorists that it had to move away its warships from their main harbor in Karachi. “It’s not a question of fear, but a matter of tactic,” he said.

Retired Vice Admiral Javed Iqbal underlined another important benefit of the move: “Unlike many navy bases in Karachi, such as Mehran, that are in the centre of residential areas, Ormara is a far off base,” he said, adding that any terrorist there would be spotted from miles away.

He said the movement of ships to Ormara would give “strategic depth” and better defence positions to the navy. He also rejected the notion that the fear factor may have played a major role in the decision. “I’ve been a commando myself and I can tell you this is a brilliant tactical move,” he said.

Retired Air Vice-Marshal Shahzad Chaudhry said the navy has been keeping its assets at the Ormara port for quite some time, but obviously it was not as huge as the “home base” of Karachi. He said that, further down Ormara, some aerial assets have also been kept at Pasni in the past, adding that moving assets is a sensible move.

this is an excellent move.
infant PN have been planning to upgrade the Ormara Naval Base (Jinnah Naval Base) to make it home for its naval fleet. it will be a good move.
keeping is view that Karachi is a very highly populated area, any defense installation in or around Karachi are sure to creat trouble.
this does not only brings security risk to military installation as we have seen in attacks on PNS Mehran and earlier on GHQ Rawalpindi but also create a lot of trouble for civilians.
in Karachi PN can not keep a tight guard on its assets and allow no onw to corss certain boundries as this will bring trouble to civilains and if they do not be harsh in there actions, security can be compromised!
keeping in view all this, Ormara is a perfect place. deep inside Pakistan (far from Indina border) and remort and less populated area with military can set up its defense ring as per liking and normal lifestyle of civilians wont be effected.

the work on the Ormara base is quite slow, to say the least, perhaps shortages of funds is a prime issue but sure PN also understands its need to be developed as the new home for Pakistan Navy!

regards!

IMO, they should move out, ISI should take the area next to PAF HQ in isb, where GHQ was supposed to be made. The old building should be demolished and new tender be given. There is a big autoparts market right next to the rear wall of ISI HQ. Once i went to repair the car there, the sentry on the post above the wall was within talking distance!!!
NESCOM hospital should stay, but the offices and other secret things should move . Hospital could be enlarged.

But , ALAS the shortage of funds!!!:hitwall:

once sir murad said when these bases was made they was very far from population but now after 50 years of increase of housing they are middle in cities .we should relocate first GHQ its current place is very very bad for GHQ . navy should move to pasni jewaani ormara and build one more base out of karachi .same for air force they should start work to relocate slowly out from cities and stay away from public army cantonments also concerned .

IMO , only Rwp cantt is really in the midst of everything. Everything there is exposed. GHQ is now secure as far as i have seen. The outer perimeter is guarded well and then there are three more posts inside until you reach the GHQ.

It was shelved as far as i know, when kayani came , he immediately ordered the project to be ceased. Lack of funds, and there was no real need for it. Also there was a security concern that the Naval HQ, Air HQ an GHQ all in the same place. If God forbid anything happens, all three could be taken out. So it is on hold permanently at the moment.

I pass through there everyday, a few families living, but not much.
