Secular activist Gauri Lankesh shot dead in Bengaluru

Listen from the brother of Gauri.
A slap for all seculars.

He has been a BJP camp follower for nearly a decade now. Brother and sister had quarreled, the sister split away and formed her own media group and the brother went to the extent of taking the matter to the police. So much for your incriminating testimony.

Which pervert are you talking about? Don't tell me you get fooled by silly youtube videos.

Don't change the subject. The question is still of blind advocacy.

So you are suspecting/indicating that his brother has colluded with BJP to get his sister killed?

. . . .
I am not changing the subject, you are the one who drew the parallel, I just want further clarification.

You are just using what-aboutery to get out of an impossible, untenable position. Not at all surprising.

.
Incredible.

Is that the only question that came to your mind?

See, that question came to mind at 11PM when I was going to sleep. Usually I get very little time to browse defence PK after seeing twitter, FB, whatsapp and then SMSs & emails which are vital. I do answer in every forum when I wait for son's tuition to be over or waiting for someone in some office and like that situation only.

Coming to topic, my personal opinion is Journalist job has its own occupational hazard. Just leave aside left, right, center or ideology for some time. What can you do, if tomorrow a Naxalite kills kills Arnab Goswami? Chances are that they will kill him if they get a chance. The same what we are doing now. Police, CB, CBI investigation etc. What you do when you catch one? 10- life time imprisonment or hanging? Will it stop? No.

We will have only TV debate and on that basis of debate our vote share will be decided.

Do you remember the infamous "Chabirani" murder case in the 80s in Odisha? There was JB Pattnaik's Govt. There was a Minister called Basant Biswal who was water resources minister. Chabirani and her husband were journalist. He exposed the corruption of Mr. Biswal's Khas people in Jagatsinghpur Biridi block. The goons of Mr. Biswal went after the journalist and found him along with his wife on the river bank while the couple decided to permanently leave their home as they felt there was no safety for them. When attacked the husband ran away and his wife was caught. The wife was brutally, raped and murdered. The description of that murder was so revolting that the then PM India Gandhi had to intervene and ask JB for action.

Then came Anjana Mishra rape case, both in the same time of JB Pattnaik, though Anjana Mishra was not a journalist.

There was no ideology at that time.

Journalists
are no saints as per my experience. They regularly get their haftas from BDOs, contractors even JEs and Asst Engineer lever Govt. officers. They keep their mouth shut and open as per the situation. Not all but many. They will not come to any news briefing until they ar sure that they will get money or liquor.

Now suppose I am an businessman or a contractor or an supplier. And I have muscle power. If some one have an evil eye on my income, then surely I will try to harm him. If I know that, that man has got more power than me, I will just keep quite and try to buy him through money or else what can I do?

I have also got personal experience. If I give advertisement to only one paper, next day all other come with an offer and a veiled threat.

Now if the murdered is caught in this particular case and if he is found out to be a Sanghi:-), then also what can you do? Brand all sanghis as intolerant, fasicsts, murderers? If it is found that he shot her because a relative of him was killed by Naxals to which she endorsed, then?

Frankly speaking we are now divided. There are news debate going on in NDTV and India today channel. When a sanghi journalist will be killed, Times Now and Republic will debate it and NDTV will remain silent.

Now to my conclusion. Journalism is good, Freedom of thinking very good. Because of it only we are a happy country (I am happy). But it has its occupational Hazard.....life threatening is one of them.

Now to sleep, cannot blabber much. Subh morning walk toh jana hai.

I must compliment you - half-heartedly.

You have the most remarkable knack of combining insight with a complete disorientation with regard to the subject.

Your anecdotal accounts about journalists sound authentic. From personal family experience (the other two wer both journalists), I know what a major role money plays, and how professional journalists soon get put off by the sordid atmosphere around them, and either retire into an uneasy silence, or change their line altogether in favour of an academic career.

Very insightful. And also completely irrelevant.

We have here the possibility that a political party in power is using its control over the apparatus of power of the state to push home an illegal and unconstitutional agenda through the selective assassination of prominent rivals. If not assassination, then character assassination; both Teesta Setalvad and Radhika Roy have been attacked on their contributions from abroad. It is clear that this party is not accidentally blundering into difficult situations; the core belief is that their ideology has the support of Indians, or, at least, the right thinking, right speaking and right doing ones. Following from that is the firm belief that a rabble may do what it pleases, and the policemen should stand aside, and watch.

That is the tyranny of the majority, a situation that has killed several citizens and will go out to kill others as well.

RIP. Murder of a human life is always deplorable.
I don't think Modi's BJP can score any brownie points by killing a journalist who spoke against them specially when the elections are nearing. Maybe she was used as a scapegoat by some to degrade BJP after their anti-hindi drive and regionalism failed epically in the state.

. .
Which pervert are you talking about? Don't tell me you get fooled by silly youtube videos.

Isn't that exactly what happens every time "one of them" is killed?

With in 10 minutes of Gauri's death, the "other side" had already declared who the killers are both in media and social platforms.

But "we" shouldn't counter this falsehood lest the "other side" get offended.

"their" feelings are dignity are important and "ours" don't matter.

Had they had any objectivity and dignity, we wouldn't have needed to troll death of a person. But they started using Gauri's death to score political points and have made a caricature of her, after her death.
Even me, who was disgusted by her death am not so sure now. If they keep maligning people at the drop of a hat, they are going to loose what ever little support or neutrality they enjoy in their discourse with us.

Hey I am not the one who brought in the contents of fake video here to push a point.

Sir, that was me trolling back. It was reverse speculation to the speculation that Hindus have killed Gauri.

On a larger note, I would like to bring to everyone's notice 3 very curious cases where certain sections of media pretend these cases don't exist.
1. Sundanda's murder - She was murdered within 24 hours of her threatening to expose powerful people. Until today the so called liberal media, including Gauri never thought to take Sunanda's case on.
2. Tarun Tejpal rape case - This is an open & shut case where in we have Tejpal himself apologizing for his 'indiscretion'. He is very much part of the very cabal that is today blaming Hindus for Gauri's murder.
3. Pachurai rape case - Anyone seen any debate on this guy caught on camera sexually harassing his ward who has the same age as of his grand daughter?

These liberal media that ran hundred of debates on Asaram and co (very aptly) have not done a SINGLE debate on these 3 cases.

Murder has become a convenient tool for the liberals.
If anyone thinks most of these liberals (Not all) are sad at the murder of Gauri, think again. They are smiling in their hearts because they have another issue to beat the Hinuds with.

No, you are just the one who is unable to answer a challenge and twists and turns and wriggles to get out of having to make an admission of being in the wrong.

Not appreciated. I am personally convinced that you can make better use of your obvious brains, and that we deserve better use of your moral courage, a very unusual trait in the Sanghi ranks.

Wrong tree. Sometimes arguments like yours seem to assume that everyone, everywhere is responsible, individually, for every omission to do this, that or the other. Personally, I thought Gauri Lankesh was over the top; her degree of support for civil rights invited its own reactions and responses. However, the point here is that she specialised in certain things, mainly Karnataka based things. She was not, afaik, engaged with the Sunanda case.

2. Tarun Tejpal rape case - This is an open & shut case where in we have Tejpal himself apologizing for his 'indiscretion'. He is very much part of the very cabal that is today blaming Hindus for Gauri's murder.

Tarun Tejpal had a role as a critic of the saffron right. That in NO WAY relieves him of the responsibility to keep the laws, and in no way absolves him of the consequences of the Goa incident. How does this crime now extend backwards to discredit all liberals? How does this, for instance, affect my own indignation? Why should his sexual predatory action discredit me? Do you not yourself find it ridiculous?

3. Pachurai rape case - Anyone seen any debate on this guy caught on camera sexually harassing his ward who has the same age as of his grand daughter?

Are you referring to the sexual harrassment charges due to which he had to resign from TERI? As far as I know, the case is under investigation.

These liberal media that ran hundred of debates on Asaram and co (very aptly) have not done a SINGLE debate on these 3 cases.

This is perverse and untrue. I for one have got all my information on these three from the media. And I do not remember whether it is a right-wing or a left-wing source, merely whether or not it was a trustworthy source.

Murder has become a convenient tool for the liberals.

I really find that a disgusting sentiment.

Point taken and I will try and keep that in mind sir. At times emotions do get the better of us.

Wrong tree. Sometimes arguments like yours seem to assume that everyone, everywhere is responsible, individually, for every omission to do this, that or the other. Personally, I thought Gauri Lankesh was over the top; her degree of support for civil rights invited its own reactions and responses. I think the 3 points I made was not to you sir.
It was trying to expand the general outrage and the quantum of it when dealing with different cases.
Sunanda's case baffles me. This is a clear case where the establishment was used to silence a woman.
A Journalist should primarily be anti-establishment, no matter who the establishment is. In Sunanda's case the media and journalists have done a disservice. The tough questions were never asked. The investigative part of journalism was dealt a blow in this particular case.

Again, it was never intended as a reply to you.
Should have formatted my reply better.
This is again in the larger context of how the 'establishment' is trying to shield Tarn Tejpal. The reason why I brought these 3 cases is that the perpetrators in these 3 cases are part of the establishment.
Gauri was anti-establishment to a large extent. She had ideological differences with BJP & RSS. She was also taking on Corruption in Karnataka govt.
The people who with in 10 minutes of her death pointing fingers at BJP/Sangh are the same people who never questioned the establishment in the 3 cases I mentioned.

Are you referring to the sexual harrassment charges due to which he had to resign from TERI? As far as I know, the case is under investigation.
There is a video is him clearly harassing the young woman.
Point I am trying make sir is that if this was some one like Asaram, would the same liberal media be as docile?

This is perverse and untrue. I for one have got all my information on these three from the media. And I do not remember whether it is a right-wing or a left-wing source, merely whether or not it was a trustworthy source.
There is difference between informing about a crime and doing investigative and critical analysis.
The liberal has done the former and have forgotten to do the latter. I would love to be proved wrong if one can show me a debate on these 3 cases in liberal media in last 6 months.

Sir, all victims in these 3 cases were woman. One murdered and 2 "raped". The same moral outrage or critical analysis on these 3 cases has not happened in the same way as I see in other cases.

I really find that a disgusting sentiment.
Truth oftentimes is disgusting sir.
Sunanda was part of the same circle until she was scorned and tried to expose powerful people in her anger. Do you even remember the outrage after her murder?
