The Myanmar government has conveyed its anxiety to the Bangladesh mission there that the Jamaat-e-Islami had been helping the Rohingya groups in Bangladesh with arms to incite sectarian clashes in Myanmar.

Foreign Minister Dipu Moni said this in a statement in parliament yesterday.

“For the sake of its national security, Bangladesh will not allow any more Rohingya in,” she said.

Referring to appeals from different human rights bodies and non-government organisations to allow the Rohingyas to enter Bangladesh, Dipu Moni said Dhaka was not a party to the 1951 Refugee Convention or its 1967 Protocol.

“Therefore, under no convention or protocol are we obliged to shelter the Rohingyas.

“Although we are not bound by any international laws, considering our experience of the 1971 [Liberation War], we have been sheltering the Rohingyas on humanitarian grounds," she told the House.

Remembering Bangladesh refugees taking shelter in India during the Liberation War, she said, “We have never forgotten it and that's why Bangladesh always extends its helping hands when such incidents take place.”

“In 1971, there was a war going on in Bangladesh. There was mass killing, looting and rape taking place…. We are grateful that the Indira Gandhi government and the people of India stood beside the Bangladesh refugees.”

But Myanmar's situation is not similar to that of Bangladesh in 1971, she added.

“The situation is not as if the Rohingya people have no place to go. We ourselves face many problems. We have allowed many Rohingyas to live in our country and we do not want to add to our problems by allowing more of them in.

“The country [Myanmar] is not forcing its citizens to leave the country. This is a sectarian clash in which the state is not involved. The Myanmar government is rather working to resolve the problem,” she added.

Why its so surprising to you? Jammat can do it to divert attention and create anarchy or Muammar government can do it too to place the blame on bangladesh without involving the government which is also good for current government as it will be able to accuse or ban jammat for it....

Dhaka/Chandpur, Jun 15 (bdnews24.com) – The Foreign Minister has said the government did not allow Rohingya refugees to cross into Bangladesh on the grounds of national interest and that its stance is 'logical and lawful'.

Dipu Moni made the comment on Friday speaking to journalists at her constituency Chandpur, a day after she elaborated on the government's stance on the Rohingya issue in Parliament.

She, however, believed Dhaka's position will not hurt relations with Myanmar.

Hundreds of Rohingyas are fleeing their residence in western Myanmar following a recent sectarian violence between Buddhists and Muslims and have been trying to enter Bangladesh. .

As many of them tried to enter inside Bangladesh where over 500,000 of them have been staying for decades, the government has asked the border guards to turn their boats back.

International community particularly the US and US-backed rights organisations have been calling on the government to open Bangladesh's border to Rohingyas so. The government, however, maintained it would not do so.

"We have never acted in an unjust way. We provided them with food, medicine and fuel (while turning back their boats)," the Foreign Minister said.

"Our points are logical and lawful," she said referring to her Parliament speech.

Dipu Moni in Parliament on Thursday said Bangladesh was not bound to shelter Rohingyas as it never signed international agreement, convention or law for allowing and giving shelter to refugees.

She told the international community to stand by the Rohingyas through Myanmar.

Jamaat incited riot

The Foreign Minister also accused Jamaat-e-Islami for instigating the riot in Myanmar.

"Jamaat has strong links with the Rohingyas. Several Rohingya groups are active in Myanmar with the support of Jamaat," she had said in Parliament.

"The Myanmar government had communicated their concern to the Bangladesh's embassy that some of their organisations and Jamaat-e-Islami are instigating the riot by making armed intervention in Myanmar," the Minister said.

Original Jamaat e islami is now split into three countries, Pakistan, India and BD.

Jamaat pakistan has been at the forefront of organizing and recruiting jihaad in foreign countries including india and afghanistan. They have a questionable stand on taliban attacking pakistan too.

Jamaat India has managed to stay out of controversies largely.

Jamaat BD is accused of war crimes in 1971 war and as any extreme right wing political party are kinda cuckoo.

The founder of the original jamaat was a madman maududi - a religious supremacist of the typical jihadi variety. Nothing special about him.

Jamat e Islami Bangladesh is a extreme rightist group in Bangladesh. During 1971 civil war or Bangladesh Independence movement, they sided with West Pakistan(present day Pakistan) and lots of leaders were involved in killing of their own people. After Independence of Bangladesh many of them left Bangladesh but many of them later allowed to return to Bangladesh.

Jamat e Islami Bangladesh had been involved in violence against Hindus and Buddhist.

Jamat e Islami is right now having political alliance with "Bangladesh Nationalist Party".

You must realize this happens only if you are anti-US. After 1971 Pakistan was still US proxy and the whole war crimes saga was not pursued internationally.

However recently some Jamaat BD guys have been indicted by the war crimes tribunal in BD.

Good thing for Myanmar is Jamaat guys can be practical. For example they get into a mess only when its profitable, for example they keep out of the status of muslims in east turkistan in china. Since Myanmar have a good relationship with China, it would be possible to ''convince'' them.

In any case they have special love for Hindus, so Myanmar should be enemy no 2. However for propaganda they may try to tell their people that Myanmar is doing this because of Hindu RAW (india's external intelligence) like that kallu and his cronies were trying to do on the other thread.
