Second Language for Pakistan

If today Pakistan opts for a second national language what would you want it to be?

Dari, the pre-colonial lingua franca. Its not a native tounge per se anymore which means no internal fighting between Punjabis, Sindhis and Pakhtuns.

Its historic presence nevertheless makes it easier for people of the Indus valley to pick it up as compared to completely foreign tounges.

If you want my honest opinion I would say Farsi and Dari should have been chosen as our "national language" when we gained our independence in 1947 making Urdu as national language it was a plain mistake on the founding fathers of the nation but because of East Pakistan had to be a compromise but in 2019 I say Pakistan national language should be Urdu and English, Provincial Govts can mandate citizens to learn the regional language as well as National together I am for a policy of bilingualism KPK can have Pashto language enshrined and have sighs plus heavily regional based media same with all provinces

They won't teach you to build bridges, rockets, motorways, cars, trains etc But I suppose we can import Chinese to do that right while we sell Islam to them?

Reason why I say English should be a 2nd language is not please "gora sahib" but because most of our diaspora is located in the Anglosphere you will find more of us in the UK,USA,Canada,Australia,or NZ than Turkey,Iran, China,GCC most 2nd and 3rd gen like myself barley speak Urdu or speak with heavy accent if you want to connect with us and help promote Pakistan internationally thats the best option

Was Urdu just chosen as the national language? I don’t know much about the issue, but surely it wasn’t picked out of a hat. If Dari was ‘chosen’ at independence, would that have been accepted?

The provincial language off a province should be first then Urdu should follow not the other way around making Urdu a priority and leaving out the provincial language was a blunder thats why we have these liberal burger bachay in abundance nowadays

Accommodating Biharis in East Pakistan was one of the reason to choose Urdu however it backfired when Bengalis found it difficult against Biharis to climb up the ladder in the civil services.

Lets be realistic..Urdu is here to stay.. What we can do is based on the need and interest adopt a new language
Like EU has people learning multiple languages starting from early childhood we can learn something here.i spent my early childhood in Europe, we were taught three languages..A human mind is capable to adopt 3-4 languages very easily.
Something similar can be experimented in Pakistan.I say start with the following 4 languages ,Urdu,Persian(Dari),Turkish and Arabic. We can add Indonesian and other languages with time.Lets make Pakistan the switzerland of this region. It improves our regional connectivity.

Correct but the Migrants to the GCC are not becoming citizens, they are just cheap labor for the Gulf Arab states the diaspora in the Anglospshere are tax paying citizens who can deepen ties with their host nations and Pakistan by lobbying our narrative plus they more highly educated more likely there than in the GCC

Adding East Pakistan was mistake Bangladesh should have been independent in 1947 would have saved us from the events of 1971

I agree Urdu is here to stay but I would like for our nation to know Dari and Farsi at least we can then fully move westward and become a true Eurasian state

*BTW do you live in Turkey atm
