Sea row: Hague court ruling may be delayed as Taiwan group intervenes
BY AT EDITOR on MAY 10, 2016 in ASIA TIMES NEWS & FEATURES, CHINA, SOUTHEAST ASIA

(From Reuters)

A Taiwanese group has intervened in the Philippines’ international court case against China’s claims in the South China Sea, pressing Taipei’s position that Taiwan is entitled to a swathe of the disputed waterway as an economic zone.

A memorial plaque signed by Taiwan President Ma-Ying-jeou, which is engraved with the words ‘Peace in the South China Sea and our national territory secure forever’, is seen in Itu Aba

The unusual submission has emerged just as judges at the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague are poised to rule on the Philippines’ landmark case, brought under the United Nations’ Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

The move could delay the judges’ ruling, now expected within two months, and potentially complicates worsening territorial disputes roiling across the vital trade route.

Last month, the judges allowed written evidence from the government-linked Chinese (Taiwan) Society of International Law, even though Taiwan is neither a member of the United Nations, nor a signatory to UNCLOS, legal and diplomatic sources said.

We want to recognize ROC as an independent country.
I like to admit that.

anyway the statement could apply to both PRC and ROC. There is no difference.

"The nine dashed line has no legal ground to be considered as ...."

ROC is the responsible territory to provide the material and explanation to PCA.
PRC isn't.

I'm ok to invite ROC as the creator of dashed line to explain what dashed line mean.

If Taiping dao is declared an island and allowed a 200mile EEZ it will cover 90% of all Spratly. Will Vietnam abandon all the reef occupied within that EEZ? And will Vietnam abandon the two reefs within Malaysian EEZ.

Vietnam WILL be the BIGGEST loser. Just look at the map.

We all know the Viets would not abandon the reef. It will take another 1988 to bring them down on their knees.

Pinoy's new president Duterte already said he does not believe in international arbitration. Looks like USA is going to lose its bases in Philippines soon. Multiple spanking attacks from China overwhelms USA!

I think it is slowly dawning on the Filipinos that going to the United Nation is a mistake.

Duterte later expressed skepticism about the Philippines’ case at the U.N. tribunal, questioning the worth of a ruling that China has said it won’t accept. “I have a similar position as China’s. I don’t believe in solving the conflict through an international tribunal,” he said. [\QUOTE]

All claimants have their islands, except China only reefs.
Your extremist attitude did cover your own eyes not to see that?8
Vietnam owns at least 5 islands among 22 features, including the natural island named Spratly which provide the intl name for the group of islands and reefs... SPRATLY ISLANDS

And not all island has 200 miles of EEZ.

For all questions, Vietnam recognized the PCA power to make statement of the case, means they follow the laws.

Giving some reefs to MY, PH ... Aren't big thing, once we reach the statement that push nations follow the intl laws.

Annam built a weather station in Itu Aba island registered by number 48.919 in 1933. They provided materials to show the real control back to 18-19th century.

Itu Aba in 1933 assigned to belong Ba Ria province of Annam
