What's new

Scrutiny and possible actions against Pak for perceived or real support to Afg Taliban.

Lol this partisan bill will never see the day of light. It is weak and weird people like Graham Lindsay behind it. Nothing will come out of this is another histronics false PDF alarm as usual and overreactions is PDF cuisine no sane US admin would pursue such policies for obvious reasons. The US is in geopolitcally a period where it doesn't want Pakistan turned into another Iran giving birth to few other nuclear states in the mideast as result
Happened after US left in early 90s, it'd happen again.

sanction on Pakistan would bring WW3 even closer because than China and Russia would supply every thing in their arsenal.
The boundary would be set as well any thing above Saudia would be termed as Russian Block which would be an end for Saudia. This is the reason the Saudis are trying to mend their ties with Russia and China.

.
Guys, stop hyperventilating over this shit.

1. The bill mentions nothing about sanctioning Pakistan.
2. If you follow the politics in the US, you know republican and Democrat divide. This is largely a republican effort. It will likely go nowhere or be changed significantly.

Twenty two US senators have moved a bill in the Senate that seeks to assess Pakistan’s alleged role in Afghanistan before and after the fall of Kabul and in the Taliban offensive in Panjshir Valley.
Senator Jim Risch, ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and other Republicans introduced the Afghanistan Counterterrorism, Oversight, and Accountability Act in the Senate on Monday to address outstanding issues related to the Biden administration’s “rushed and disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan.”
The proposed legislation calls for a comprehensive report on who supported the Taliban during America's 20 years in Afghanistan, helped the group in capturing Kabul in mid-August and supported their offensive on Panjshir Valley.

The proposed legislation requires the secretary of state, in consultation with the secretary of defence and the director of national intelligence, to submit a report on entities providing support to the Taliban to the appropriate congressional committees.
The report must reach the relevant committees “not later than 180 days after the date of the enactment of this act, and not less frequently than annually thereafter”.
The first report shall include “an assessment of support by state and non-state actors, including the government of Pakistan, for the Taliban between 2001 and 2020,” including the provision of sanctuary space, financial support, intelligence support, logistics and medical support, training, equipping, and tactical, operation or strategic direction.
The legislation also requires “an assessment of support by state and non-state actors, including the government of Pakistan, for the September 2021 offensive of the Taliban against the Panjshir Valley and the Afghan resistance”.

“We continue to see the grave implications of the Biden administration’s haphazard withdrawal from Afghanistan,” Senator Risch said in a statement issued by his office.
“We face a renewed terror threat against the United States, and the Taliban wrongly seek recognition at the United Nations, even as they suppress the rights of Afghan women and girls.”
Senator Risch said he was proud to introduce the legislation to address these concerns and rebuild America’s credibility.
“I hope the committee will be able to mark it up soon so that we can quickly help those we left behind and protect America’s national security interests before it’s too late,” he added.
The proposed bill also seeks to impose sanctions on the Taliban and others in Afghanistan for terrorism, drug-trafficking, and human rights abuses, as well as on those providing support to the Taliban, including foreign governments.
It states that the US should not recognise any member of the Taliban as the ambassador of Afghanistan to the United States or as the ambassador of Afghanistan to the United Nations, and places restrictions on non-humanitarian foreign assistance to the war-torn country.
It also calls for a comprehensive review of foreign assistance to entities that support the Taliban.
The bill also seeks to establish a US State Department task force to focus on the evacuation of American citizens, legal permanent residents, and Afghan Special Immigrant Visas (SIVs) who are still stuck in Afghanistan, as well as impose oversight mechanisms on the processing of SIVs and refugees.
It also calls for strategies for counterterrorism and for the disposition of Taliban-captured US equipment.
'Pakistan being scapegoated'
Reacting to the development, federal Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari said that Pakistan will once again be made to pay a heavy price for being an ally of the US in the 'War on Terror'.
"Twenty years of presence by economically and militarily powerful US & Nato left behind chaos with no stable governance structures. Pakistan is now being scapegoated for this failure," she said.

"This was never our war. We suffered 80,000 casualties, a decimated economy, over 450 drone attacks by our US 'ally' and the disastrous fallout of these attacks on our tribal areas and people," she said.
She called on the US Senate to do "serious introspection".

"Enough is enough. It is time for those powers that were present in Afghanistan to look to their own failures instead of targeting Pakistan which paid a heavy price [...] for being an ally and suffering constant abuse in a war that wasn't ours," the minister said.

They have been humiliated by Taliban. A rag tag militia outlasted the most resourceful army. Instead of accounting for the money Americans wasted, they are looking for scapegoat.

Do you want to track down the money?

The CIA and the Pentagon want to know your location.

Target locked. Missile launch. Countdown, 10,9,8........:sniper:

What we got from USA:
1)Remittance, and it has shown the greatest increase increase of remittance growth.
2)Exports
3)and the financial aid to run our bankrupt nation
We need USA more then USA needs us

.
Depends on how much support this republican senator can gather. I doubt it will pass in this form. America still needs Pakistan.

Personally though, I'd much rather prefer that our establishment gets off this illusion of being an American ally and dependency on corrupting aid ASAP with a shock.

Who told our leadership to trust the Americans? How many times we will be bitten by them?

This is for the first time ever that our leadership hasn't trusted the Americans actually.
These sanctions were in pipes since Obama. I've written about this extensively on here. Pakistan's largest trading partner for it's exports is the US. I don't understand how do you not engage with the only real superpower in the globe for so many years as actively as it was needed. At this time, 80% of the US leaders are against Pakistan. If active foreign policy was at play all these years, you'd see minimal damage.

Secondly, your post is very flawed. You guys like to think "America got humiliated", etc, etc. These same posts are visible to the world as "Pakistanis hate America" when you guys are just too emotional to be frank. To the US, this was an operation. When an operation goes bad, we shut it down without emotions. It's just that simple. Our focus needed to be on China and now trillions are being planned to be spent against China. Nothing has really "destroyed" America financially by being in Afghanistan. Again, Pakistan has always known it had issues with the US, and secondly, there was the Indian lobby factor. That's minimized now and it's just the post Afghan war era image of Pakistan and the US leadership. So somewhere you guys needed to bring blue suits and red ties. The US leadership hates dealing with current or ex military people, sadly, that was all Pakistan could offer. Send in civilians with authority, in suits and with aggressive diplomacy. You'll see results in two years.

US govt doesn't like Imran Khan govt here. They are clearly in talks with PPP Bilawal Bhutto. Little bhutto visited US last month and 2 days back he has flown to US again to have 'important meetings' as claimed by his spokesperson in Karachi yesterday.

Err...

Pakistan does not imports much from USA due to massive distance and lack of PayPal payment gateway.

Pakistani traders find it easy to import stuff from China due to close proximity and goodwill, and it is easy for many to visit China as well.

But for general knowledge sake;

  • The top export categories (2-digit HS) in 2019 were: cotton ($628 million), oilseeds and oleaginous fruits (soybeans) ($390 million), iron and steel ($244 million), machinery ($198 million), and mineral fuels ($132 million).
  • U.S. total exports of agricultural products to Pakistan totaled $1.2 billion in 2019, our 24th largest agricultural export market. Leading domestic export categories include: cotton ($628 million), soybeans ($384 million), tree nuts ($33 million), dairy products ($31 million), and planting seeds ($30 million).

Those fast food chains have produced thousands of jobs across the country.

There are multiple American companies which have created jobs across Pakistan. You will notice these in Pakistani cities if you know where to look. Fast food chains are rather easy to notice due to obvious reasons.

Pakistani armed forces have received numerous American military goods as well. This should be common knowledge.

Another thing is that many of the electronic components imported from other countries contain American components. These include computer systems and smartphones. This dynamic is not apparent in statistics but it does show how important USA is at shaping modern needs in any society.

Latest news is that Amazon is coming to Pakistan, and this platform can facilitate trade with American suppliers. Many Pakistani entrepreneurs are willing to tap this platform. Let us see.

Lol. Let them sanction I mean only a fool would think it wasn't coming.
Theirs a reason why J-10's were put on the table awhile back to tell the West & Co., we give no f***.

There is much more to just weapons here...understand that you can't comprehend anything beyond.
US control IMF, world bank...say goodbye to investments, loans, export to the west....they also can influence Gulf countries to make your energy supplies on credit, more difficult...plus FATF, Plus fuelling insurgency, plus destabilising political environment...... Only if you would have chosen your words correctly, your ministers and elites would not have bragged / chest thumped on Taliban taking over Af....and IK would have kept his mouth shut...things could have been different.....but now....
" Absolutely Not".
