It is. The greatest threat to ignorance is actually exposure and interaction, or knowledge. Not on the internet, but in real life.

After all, where did the term “street smart” come from? It meant exposure and knowledge- knowledge from experience, not information.. knowledge.

While that does imply that street smart is good enough and education isn’t needed, it implies that knowledge isn’t always in passing degrees or knowing a subject.

Sir Syed Ahmed did a lot of things, but a side effect of his proposing the British education system versus certain well established Islamic schools was that certain practices that Islamic schools did provide were lost. During the epoch of the Mughals, Islamic schools weren't just teaching the Quran; but mathematics, basic scientific concepts, physical training, basic carpentery and so on. These skills are found in US and Scandinavian school systems but not in the British school system we have adopted.

I dither however, the point remains that knowledge is what makes a nation capable of smarter decisions; not being involved in a money rat race.

I think you misunderstood what people are complaining about, its not the Ajrak itself, its the misplaced priorities of the Sindh govt.

Personally i love Ajrak and i am a Pukhtoon.

The newly-elected Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government in Sindh has announced to make Ajrak as part of the uniform for girls in all secondary and higher secondary government schools.

According to a recently issued notification, the use of Ajrak will be made part of the school uniform for the girl students from class IX to XII.

To ensure the directives and implement the policy, the government has nominated Sadaf Akbar Memon as its focal person. She will be responsible to “visit schools under the administrative control of this directorate randomly.”

The focal person will be responsible to look after the progress of implementation of the uniform policy and submit report on monthly basis.


Ajrak is a unique form of blockprinted shawls and tiles found in Sindh, Pakistan. These shawls display special designs and patterns made using block printing by stamps.

In 2012, it was reported that instead of the conventional dupattas or scarves, the girl students in the schools and colleges of the province may soon be wearing ajraks – a trademark of the Indus Valley Civilisation – as districts governments have decided to make the traditional chaddar a part of uniform.

No one should have problem with Sindhi ajrak. Just like that muhajirs can wear pantalon or lungi as their traditional address. No need to force anyone.

First stop being racist against Sindhis. They will chose what is best for them with options at hand. If PPP doesn't perform in next 5 years then PTI may gain more ground in Sindh. Last time I checked PPP was 100x times better then MQM but we don't see people insulting slave like muhajirs. MQM literally used to force people to vote for them before rangers freed Karachi. Now that's what I call slavery.
