SC declares appointment of NAB Chairman illegal



ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has declared the appointment of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman, Fasih Bokhari illegal. The apex court has directed the federal government to appoint a new chairman.

A five member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Tasadduq Hussain Jilani heard the constitutional petition filed by Chaurdhy Nisar Ali Khan challenging the appointment of Bokhari as NAB chairman. Chaudhry Nisar in his petition stated that he as the opposition leader was not consulted during the appointment process.

In its short order the court ruled that not consulting the opposition leader over the appointment of the NAB chairman was a violation of the constitution.

Fasih Bokhari bids adieu to colleagues

ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau Chief Admiral (retd) Fasih Bukhari had a farewell meeting with his colleagues in the anti-corruption body’s headquarters after the Supreme Court of Pakistan struck down his appointment as NAB chief.

Bokhari said that though he was not hoping such an order by the apex court, he would accept the ruling, the sources said.

The court declared his appointment null and void over a plea filed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz stalwart Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.
