The reason in 900 AD is same as in 2015 AD. The rich and spoiled Arabs don't want to leave their comfortable life to drudgery of army life. Wars are tears blood and sweat and they would rather hire mercenaries to fight their wars.

Instead of blaming Iran you should also look at the role of UAE, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait in funding Iraq attack on Iran. The war lasted 8 years, killed millions people and Iraq imploded. Iraq was bankrolled to attack Iran by these Arabs and now they want Pakistan to follow Iraq's steps. Saudis started to bankroll Sunni extremist groups to attack Shias in Pakistan. This is attack on unity of Pakistan by the Wahhabi Saudi regime. The Saudis are also funding attacks on Iran border guards. It is better that we protect our national interests instead of siding with one against the other.

Its the Arabs who are asking retired officers/soldiers to come and fight against their own people- an obvious reference to the democracy protests in various countries not so long ago. Pakistanis won't budge this time and they wont fight somebody else war, we have finally learned a lesson from the Afghan war. Time for the Sultan's parrot to lead one last prayer and then leave to tell his master that he failed to emotionally blackmail Pakistanis and to have any effect on the Yemen policy endorsed by the parliament.
