This is a non-story really.
So an entire documentary watched by 5 million or so people (talk about an obsession) is based on the fact that some 50 years ago a Saudi Arabian man had an affair with a White American woman while studying in the US and who then left back home again when the child was born?
That and some Saudi Arabian man failling in love with some Honduran woman (or was it El Salvadoran) who he met while studying in the US and who later left when going back home?
If that is the criteria for making documentaries, we could make such documentaries about every nationality out there from today until the end of time.
A very moving documentary indeed !! And unfortunately this is all true ! Not only Saudi men but other men from Muslim Countries have done exactly the same here in Australia as well.
I understand, we are all humans and we do fall in relationships. But then walking away from Your kids like this is a MAJOR CRIME in Islam.
We are talking about a tiny minority of people. Less than 0,001%. It is not common for Muslim expat students (temporary) regardless of ethnicity in the West to make woman pregnant outside of marriage later to leave them behind when moving back home.
Obviously one would need to be completely naive to believe that no Muslim expat students from Muslim-majority nations have no affairs with woman outside of marriage but that is already occurring in every single Muslim country so not really breaking news.
However I could be wrong, maybe there are 10.000's of half-Saudi Arabians out there from Indonesia to USA and from Tanzania to UK that were conceived as a result of one-night stands?
For starters, I have seen no evidence of that being widespread among the Pakistani community abroad so I don't think that it is widespread among Arabs or other Muslims.
Anyway I think (just a guess) that this documentary target audience is the West and in the West they are hugely ignorant about Islam and Muslims so they probably imagine that all Saudi Arabians are walking and talking righteous Mullah's 24/7 when that has never been the case. Goes for every Muslim community. So I believe that there is a degree of sensationalism here, deliberately.
