Saudi king touts Trump's Islamic summit as 'new partnership'

Saudi Arabia's King Salman is touting an upcoming meeting between US President Donald Trump and heads of state from across Muslim-majority nations as the start of a new relationship that will strengthen global security.

Trump is scheduled to visit Saudi Arabia this weekend for his first overseas trip as president.

The kingdom, in an effort to show its reach and convening powers, has invited more than 50 heads of state from across the Middle East, Africa and Asia to a summit with Trump on Sunday.

In a statement carried on the Saudi Press Agency on Monday, King Salman expressed hope the May 21 summit “will establish a new partnership in confronting extremism and terrorism.”

Trump is also expected to meet separately with the Arab rulers of the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council.

He's milking the Saudis is all. A "keep your enemies closer" strategy, if you will. They'll remain subservient to the US as long as the US provides them with advanced weapons.

He is a bit of an Israeli firster though, and the US establishment has staffed his administration chock full of neocon "regime change" warmongers and hawks, a possible war with Iran, which Israel and Saudia (and many within the Trump administration) are desperate for should worry people.

Also, first foreign trip, high on symbolism, big league optics time, expect nothing but gushing platitudes toward the hosts.

Honestly, peace, partnership and "anti terror" coalitions all sound good but I hope they temper the anti Iran stuff. Another ill-concieved neocon-wahhabi-zionist nexus war is the last thing we need.

what good will that do ? Not like he's going to sell F-15s to Pakistan, India don't use F-15s or other strategic US assets either. They can check out all the US weapons all they want.
