If women feel uncomfortable to disclose their measurements to male strangers than what's the problem in appointing female sales staff?

king is scared of women to be in power and positions, weak scared men.

That is separate issue but in this case i don't see any problem in this

He's probably not the first person you would have on your mind as being the face of lingerie, but King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia has become something of a hero to women in his home country.

He has issued a decree banning all men from working in lingerie shops to end 'embarrassment' suffered by women who don't want to give men their measurements.

Saudi women working in the outlets got embroiled in a dispute three years ago with the labour ministry and the powerful religious authority, which issued a fatwa banning such jobs.

The decree from the king was part of a push to reduce the amount of female unemployment in the conservative kingdom, currently at around 30 per cent.

Saudi women say they have been uncomfortable buying lingerie from men and would prefer female sales assistants.

Fatima Garub, founder of a Facebook campaign called 'Enough Embarrassment', backed the king's decision saying it would create about 6,000 jobs for Saudi women.

'From now, embarrassment will end,' she said. 'We thank the king who felt our problem and took the decision that we have been waiting for a long time.'

In February last year, campaigners urged women to boycott lingerie shops with male staff for two week.

They said that women should not have to give their measurements to men they don't know because it contradicted Muslim law. Islamic scholars backed the boycott.

Reem Asaad, economics professor in Jeddah, started the campaign in 2008 and religious police said they were okay with women working in shops as long as they were in women-only malls.

Religious leaders in the Wahhabi form of Islam - which makes up the majority of the country - require complete separation of members of the opposite sex who are not related.

The Saudi society continues to be incredibly traditional and the idea of women working is frowned upon.

The "news" is 2 years old, LOL. And as Khalifa said not true at all.

Besides EVEN if it was true then what is the problem? Better than Iranian racism against Arabs, Azeri Turks, Baluch, Kurds, Iranian crime and drug addiction, terrorist state sponsoring etc. The list is enormous.

Women especially in Muslim countries feel more comfortable buying lingerie from fellow women rather than men.

. .
btw women (at least the Muslim/decent ones) indeed feel uncomfortable being served by a salesman (male) while buying these items.

You can blame the House of Saud for many things but King Abdullah has been a big reformer especially when it concerns women rights in KSA. Women are living really well in KSA if we look apart from the few cases of misuse that are found everywhere in the world by evil men or the law that bands women from driving which in my opinion is wrong and a burden on the society.

Saudi Arabian women are among the most educated, modern, clever, hard working etc. in the region and those that use social media the most in the entire Muslim world.

Besides over 100.000 Saudi Arabian women have studied or study abroad in the West at top universities and are performing excellently. Including my sisters, cousins etc.

They are putting us men to shame very often. As do all the women of our region.

We are not far from the day, when women will be allowed to drive a car in SA.

This was a demand from women themselves, saudis had restricted females in sales job, so there was this strange phenomena of a conservative country with men selling ladies undergarments.
