The final contract will be signed on the 15th, and we still have to find about a billion dollars to fund 800 km of the pipeline within our borders. The pipeline deal is not done just yet.

i dont think it's valid to compare IPP contract to a bilateral contract between both Iran & Pakistan

now of course Iran not being a member of the WTO, i dont know how a reneged contract would be dealt with; but it would set a pretty awful precedent if after years of negotiations and after pipeline construction already began on Iran side that Pakistan just simply backed out

some intellectually lazy politicians/civilians may think contracts are only pieces of paper but professional people who conduct business properly do not think that way.....so lets see how professional of a course we undertake or whether in the short term we think we can toss contracts aside and face gas shortages


as for Nawaz Sharif and his allies in Saudi --- i guess they've reconciled. They were not so fond of him when he violated the agreement HE made to stay out of politics (in return for the Pak establishment dropping of criminal charges against him). So much for promises, pledges and contracts (verbal or otherwise) ey?

the guys a closet taleban anyways and he's not even ELIGIBLE to run -- it's worth mentioning. He served 2 terms already as PM. And he failed to deliver on both those terms in that capacity.

India in talks with Iran and US on the gas pipeline project

Indian Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas M. Veerappa Moily said that the Indian Government is holding talks with Iran and the United States to discuss sanctions in relation to the gas pipeline project.

Moily said the pipeline project was beneficial for India and that is why they were conducting discussions with the Iranian and U.S. Governments, Iran’s SHANA news agency reported.

External Affairs Minister of India Salman Khurshid earlier said that India and Iran are likely to discuss the stalled Iran-Pakistan-India (IPI) gas pipeline at a joint commission meeting in the first quarter of the year.

IPI project had been stalled over cost of gas as well as security of the pipeline.

India has been boycotting formal talks on the project since 2007 over security concerns. Iran and Pakistan have already signed pacts to implement the long-talked project on bilateral basis.

Pakistani public sector firm Interstate Gas Systems (ISGS) and Tadbir Energy inked the initial contract in Tehran. Though western governments have imposed sanctions on Iran, Tadbir Energy does not fall within their ambit. It is controlled by the Imam Khomeini Foundation, one of Iran’s largest charitable groups.

Tadbir Energy will undertake all engineering, procurement and construction work on the first phase of the pipeline, starting from the Pak-Iran border, costing around $250 million.

In the second phase, the financing facility will be increased by up to $250 million, depending on discussions regarding the involvement of Tadbir Energy in gas distribution in Pakistan. It will act as the lead contractor along with local subcontractors. ...

Both projects are still not finished. They can be considered achievement only when they are delivering on their promises, but not before.

yes but those two projects are way against uncle sam's wishes and even initiating them is an achievement which i never expected of this government.
