Social media and PDF don't always reflect the view of the majority of Pakistanis.
You can analyze social media data (across multiple platforms) as well as the ratings of pro-Imran Khan channels vs anti-Imran Khan channels and easily conclude that the PTI & Imran Khan have more support than the opposition and Army leadership combined.

What empirical analyses can you point to that makes the opposite case?

What praise? Didn't I clearly call both men despots?

Despot: a ruler or other person who holds absolute power, typically one who exercises it in a cruel or oppressive way.
Fair point (I didn’t see your reference to Bajwa as a despot when I responded).

Just one point of reference. IPOR poll which shows that PTI has a very significant margin lead over the governing parties, with a significant 39% of the vote, but that's 39% and nowhere near the majority. Interestingly however, that's a massive lead, enough to deliver an election victory probably by majority - if it should materialise.

I'm sure you well understand that social media circles in countries like ours are echo-chambers, online polls usually give you landslide indications in support of the PTI, actual election performance is vastly different. On platforms like ours, and spaces where political discourse is had online, the educated urbanites are massively overrepresented, echo-chambers abound.

Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa was conferred with the King Abdulaziz Medal for making "significant contributions in defence cooperation" between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, the Inter-Services Public Relations said in a statement on Sunday.

The army chief visited Saudi Arabia on an official tour, ISPR said. During the visit, Gen Bajwa called on Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is also the kingdom's first deputy prime minister and defence minister and General Fayyadh Bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili, Chief of General Staff (CGS) of the Saudi Armed Forces at Jeddah, today.

You seem not to have any clue about diplomatic etiquette. When the COAS of a long-established ally visits, it is standard procedure to give him orders as a sign of respect for the institution and Pakistan as a country. All of our COAS have received this medal.

Imran Khan was showered with orders as well. Once again, this is being done in diplomatic circles between allies.

Domestic Pakistani issues have nothing to do with this.

It proves absolutely nothing.

Bajwa was likely installed by the US, the same US that is currently at odds with KSA. MbS was/is ignoring Biden's phone calls. That was a big thing in the media not long ago. Biden wanted KSA to cut ties with Russia, increase oil production etc. None of this happened.

If KSA has the power to remove our elected PM's, it just shows the pathetic state of Pakistan.

Re read what you have wrote in the first para and your last para.

Polls are notoriously unreliable, and not just in Pakistan. We will need to wait for the actual results of an election, subject to the manner in which elections are held in Pakistan, usually.

Aye, but no poll has yet to show anything near a majority for PTI, that's my point. Social media does not necessarily represent the majority view.

I think I can safely assume that both sides, in the current environment, specially here on PDF, are simply incapable of evaluating data fairly and dispassionately, being content in letting their emotions guide their respective conclusions. Anyone who disagrees with either side can obviously be dismissed as a traitor or an anti-Pakistan mouthpiece. How convenient! :D

Seriously, though, I think that the next outcome will be determined in large part by the economic situation in the runup to the elections, whenever they might be held.

Yup, agree. IK has the advantage if elections were held tomorrow, the coalition government is banking on less inflation and less imminent bailout needs ahead of the next election. IMO however, it looks as though they miscalculated. They might have been best off electorally, to remove the previous government and then call an early election, they’ve now saddled themselves with the blame and responsibility of the current crisis. But as they say, you make your bed and then lie in it.

Can someone ask Belgium to give Mr Bajwa a Medal of INVESTMENT for bringing in Millions of dollars of wealth to Belgium and for promoting Belgium as the tourist destination for Black-money launderers???
