A court in Saudi Arabia has sentenced 17 activists and lawyers to long prison terms amid demonstrations calling for reform and the release of political prisoners in the kingdom, Press TV reports.

On Tuesday, the court handed prison sentences of up to 30 years for what it described as “sedition and other offenses.”

Most of the activists and lawyers sentenced to prison had been detained in 2007 after they met in the city of Jeddah to discuss political change in Saudi Arabia.

The court ruling on Tuesday comes as activists say Saudi security forces have killed at least three people in the city of Qatif in the Eastern Province over the past two days.

Last week, security forces in Qatif arrested two people who were accused of taking part in demonstrations demanding reform and the release of political prisoners in Saudi Arabia.

Saudi authorities have prohibited public gatherings in the wake of anti-regime demonstrations in several cities over the past few weeks.

Human Rights Watch called on Saudi authorities in October to stop “arbitrary arrests of peaceful protesters, relatives of wanted persons, and human rights activists” in the Eastern Province.

The arrests in Saudi Arabia have been carried out despite the fact that the kingdom is a party to the Arab Charter on Human Rights. Article 14 of the charter prohibits arbitrary detention.

Have your brain examined. Bin Laden was a Saudi terrorist and Al Qaeda is a salafi terrorist group. Everyone knows that and confirms that, even your allies, the Americans. These people are freedom seekers who are tired of the kingdom's tyranny.

Saudi Arabia needs to reform otherwise the house will fall.
Why you can't believe that? the USA has had a long history of supporting suppressive regimes and helping them to kill their own people when it has been in its interests.

(P.S: just when I quoted your post, it seems that you edited it. Actually I was referring to your statement that you had said "I can't believe that I'm supporting the Saudis but they need to stay stable and put the protestors in Bahrain down until the current regime of Iran falls")

As I said before these men were charged with promoting young men to go and fight in Iraq and they are getting 20 years each and their leader has close ties with AQIAP leader. I am guessing you have not read my post correctly, PressTV seems to think of Al-Qaeda who is calling for the ouster of the Saudi Regime "Political Activists".

From where do you know that story? I checked the article again, it doesn't even mention their names. so how do you know these things? How can I know that you are not trying to make up accusations just to say they are linked with Al Qaeda and are promoting Saudi youths to go fight in Iraq? Any sources confirming your claims Mosa?
Anyways, if you believe the article is biased and fails to mention the accusations that they are under properly, you can add your own sources here. I'd welcome them.
