I dunno, I've never really liked the notion of seeing someone decapitated !

Not that there is any rationality to my aversion to beheadings but because I'd much rather die with a bullet hole to show for it than my head resting a few meters besides me, I wouldn't want any other to die by decapitation !

Haram and Halal are the words which means correct or incorrect and that applies to every thing and not associated with slaughtering of meat only.

No its not only for food, but for many other things too.
Its little complex for Non Muslim to comprehend.

Washington: Saudi Arabian authorities are planning to drop public beheadings as a method of execution, a report has said.

Saudi newspaper Al-Watan reported in its Sunday edition that the ministerial committee is considering fatal shootings as an alternative.



The move to end beheadings may be coming due to a shortage of swordsmen, reports Ahram online.

There have been calls in the kingdom for replacing public beheadings with lethal injections carried out in prisons, CBS News reports.

Saudi Arabia is the only country in the world where a death sentence results in beheading in a public square.

The kingdom executes anyone convicted of murder, armed robbery, rape and trafficking in drugs, the report said.

It has executed 15 people so far this year, 76 last year and 79 in 2011, it added.

It is a pretty gory and barbaric procedure...but the things that I can gather in it's support is that it is a swift death and it is written in the Quran...so there would be a valid reason for it.

And also from a sociological POV, it seems to send out a message, a propaganda tool from the state that whoever does wrong will have his head chopped off.
