Saudi ban on work during midday hours comes into force

50? lmao in Southern regions of Iran we can sometimes get temps above 50

60 in SA is believable.

btw, even 60 isn't that high compared to 71 degrees
Lut Desert

A NASA satellite recorded surface temperatures as high as 71 °C (159 °F), the hottest surface temperature recorded on Earth. There are reports that no living creature can survive for long in this region, with Lut generally considered an abiotic zone, being so forbidding that not even bacteria can live. Research groups took sterilized milk into the Lut desert, stored it uncovered in temperatures in excess of 71 °C (159 °F) in the shade and yet, the milk remained sterile."

Well the one you pointed out is un-inhabited.

Just imagine an inhabited place with temperatures in 50s and reaching 60

And also the hottest place changes from year to year.

Anything above 40 is just too much. In summer time the city I grew up at was always in mid 30's and even reached 40s and that was way too much.

And I don't think surface temps above 71 have been recorded.

In UAE some days it easily gets to 50 in summer during the noon (in city) imagine the condition in the desert, not to mention the empty quarter.

In Kuwait few years back i once read that the soldiers in the desert had their duty timing revised as temperature of 50 was recorded for some days in shade in the desert.

. . .
Well I believe the temperature alone is not problem just think 54 degree Celsius and then add to it the insane humidity in some regions.

Before the advent of mobile phones, In all major Saudi Arabian cities there used to be public displays showing temperature & time.
Law used to be attached to the temperature not humidity.... so all field work was banned when temperature hit >45°C.

Its very different to work in 54 degree with 60% humidity and 54 degree with 90% of humidity.
