Saudi Arabia is considering introducing alcohol sales in duty free areas of selected airports, Arabian Business understands.

The plans would see limited sales of alcohol, initially for international transit passengers, in specific airports. It is believed that strict requirements would have to be met, and the sales only available to passengers travelling on designated routes.

No final decision has been made, but a consultation process is underway with key stakeholders, sources said.

Saudi doesn’t need to change alcohol laws for its tourism sector to thrive: Princess Haifa Al-Saud

The sale or consumption of alcohol is currently banned in the kingdom.

Last month the Wall Street Journal reported that Saudi Arabia is planning to allow a beach resort in its megaproject Neom to serve alcohol.

Scheduled to open as soon as next year, the beach resort on Red Sea’s Sindalah island is expected to offer a premium wine bar, a separate cocktail bar, and a bar for “champagne and desserts,” WSJ reported, citing documents dated January.

Alcohol is an Arabic word and the earliest recorded evidence of alcoholic beverages originated in the Arab world. In pre-Islamic times Arabs were famed for their wine production.

In all seriousness, this is probably a good business opportunity and would exclusively cater to non-Muslim tourists or non-Muslim passengers using KSA as a transit hence the potential alcohol sales at selected airports.

That or luxurious beach resorts aimed at Western tourists where most likely non-local and non-Muslims staff would be servicing such tourists.

The funny thing Muslims still think they can convert the west and the world to Islam while Islam is dying in their own country🤣

Dying? There is no evidence of that. On the other hand there is ample evidence of almost every religion that is not Islam dying in the sense that its followers are hardly following their religions.

Also such laws are very much similar to the already existing laws in other GCC countries and are all aimed at non-Muslim tourists. Not locals. Besides if anyone wants to drink alcohol in any Muslim country (even Afghanistan) alcohol can be bought on the "black market" and even made on your own.

Millions of drugs addicts in Afghanistan for instance under the watch of the Taliban (heroin mainly but not only) so alcohol being made privately or smuggled into the country is almost a given. Already the case in Pakistan next door.

I say go for it, earn money on non-Muslims intoxicating themselves and harming their own bodies with alcohol.

Ofcourse, great idea. Money must be earned by hook or crook.

Another great business idea, give visa to Kim Kardashian and all western whores to enter Masjidul Haram for big fee, loads of money.

Nice examples. Except that this news is specifically about KSA selling alcohol to non-Muslims/tourists (earning money on them poisoning themselves in the process) in airports and possibly luxurious beach and island resorts aimed at non-Muslim tourists/visitors.

I don't see anything wrong with that.

Alcohol is sold to non-Muslims in Pakistan legally and there is a large black market for alcohol that Muslims also engage in. I imagine that the situation is even "worse" in Bangladesh with its large Hindu population.

So why should KSA not do the same and earn money like every other country on the planet? As long as Makkah and Madinah are not involved (which they won't be) what is the problem exactly? In any case, this is the decision of KSA, we have no say in what they do.

KSA of old (post-1979 Sahwa era) is long gone. Now hugely sucessful Saudi Arabian musicians (formerly very popular across the entire Arab world, yet could not perform inside KSA) are performing at full houses within KSA.

Saudi women in both niqab, hijab and without it side by side with nobody bothering them.

KSA is now an international entertainment/sports hub with Formula 1, Dakar Rally, major boxing and football matches, golf tournaments, tennis tournaments, music concerts with international stars from all across the world a commonplace.

MBS means business and has been a great thing for KSA. Transformed the entire country for the better on almost every front. Great ruler.

halal alcohol, only in saudi arabia. i wonder if pakistan did that the brainwashed saudi stooges jihadies will go to work.

Did you even read the thread/news or are you as usual obsessed about KSA/Arabs? Alcohol consumption is far higher in Pakistan than in KSA and alcohol is legally sold in Pakistan for non-Muslims. There are huge black markets in Pakistan where alcohol is sold and consumed by Pakistani Muslims.

In KSA there is a total ban on alcohol and it is almost impossible to get unless you are living in a Western-dominated compound or you travel to neighbouring countries and smuggle it in afterwards.

To make it short, so also you will understand it, this is about sales of alcohol to non-Muslims in airports or possibly luxurious beach and island resorts. Also it is a rumour so far. Nothing official.
Are you still with me or is it all too hard to understand?

Well they are slowly adjusting with changing era.Its a good thing.
Time never stays the same, there comes a time when you have to bow down in front of a norm.

Alcohol market in BD is minscule compared to the population. BD has about 10% Hindus, not a big population and BD hindus are not great consumers of alcohol, they don't consume it more than Muslims do. But BD is irrelevant here, this thread is about KSA.

MBS means business. I have no doubt in a decade KSA will be crawling with Eastern European and South East Asian hookers like Dubai. But hey business is business as long as money comes.

Congratulations Saudis, throwing out extremism and accepting globalisation.

MBS is a very wise man, he knows what the future holds for his country, if he doesn't reform Saudi Arabia now then the future will be similar to Iraq or syria or Lybia..... A total hell hole....!!

It is not the government's responsibility to get you to heaven,

It is your own personal responsibility, and if you are incapable of that,
you will consume alcohol one way or another,
those that don't , don't.

That said, if this news is true, although the source is not mentioned.
Then this will be allowed only in NEOM and maybe the eastern province.
