SAUDI ARABIA REPORTEDLY INTERESTED IN THE JF-17 THUNDER

Saudis. I am not sure here. They have a lot of money and they can buy from their allied western nations. Yeah relations aren't awesome but oil will make sure relations always stay there and money will make sure it stays there so I doubt it.

Riyadh-Khalid Ali

ISLAMABAD: General Muhammad bin Saleh Al Qtaibi, commander of Royal Saudi Air Force, has said that his country is exploring hefty procurement from Pakistan JF-17 Thunder multi-role planes and Super Mashshak trainers for its air force.

In a brief chat with The News here on Sunday evening at the residence of Saudi Ambassador Abdullah Marzouk Al-Zahrani in the Diplomatic Enclave, he said that Pakistan is producing state-of-the-art equipment for defence use. He lauded the standard of Pakistan’s armed forces training and their commitment with their assignment.

General Muhammad bin Saleh, who is the first-ever Saudi air chief visiting Pakistan, said that he was greatly impressed by the working of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF). The ambassador hosted a dinner in the honour of visiting air chief of his country and it was also attended by host Chief of Air Staff (CAS) Air Chief Marshal (ACM) Sohail Aman and other senior officials. The two air chiefs later had an exchange of souvenirs. The Saudi air chief will visit the PAF installations, air bases and have talks with the sister air force before returning home tomorrow (Tuesday).

Earlier on arrival, he was received by ACM Sohail Aman at the Nur Khan base at Chaklala. General Qtaibi has been invited by his Pakistani counterpart ACM Sohail Aman. The Saudi Air Force is interested in undertaking joint exercises with Pakistan and intends to purchase defence equipment from Pakistan. It is likely that all subjects of mutual interest would come under discussion during the stay of the Saudi general in Pakistan. The Saudi air chief will also call on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad.

The PAF is attaching significance to the visit of the Saudis. The air chief of Pakistan visited Saudi Arabia at the invitation of General Saleh Al-Qtaibi in April this year and was warmly received in the kingdom. A royal protocol was given to him. He discussed matters of professional and mutual interest there. The air chief expressed satisfaction over the mutual cooperation between the two air forces and offered all training facilities to the Royal Saudi Air Force. He also shared the PAF’s experience of fighting against extremists in the ongoing Operation Zarb-e-Azab.

The Saudis appreciated the high standards of professionalism set by the PAF and highlighted the need for learning from each other’s experience. The air chief also visited the King Faisal Air Academy and met the PAF instructors and ground crew of Mushshak aircraft, who are deputed to Saudi Arabia.

The air chief lauded the PAF contingent for their valuable services and advised them to work as ambassadors of Pakistan in the brotherly country. The sources said the Saudi air chief had planned to visit facilities in Islamabad, Risalpur, Peshawar and Karachi.

Already posted and being discussed for days.

with EFT and F-15 on order and Tornado being upgraded, there seems to be no space or requirement for JF-17.

They have a problem, it's called reduce operational costs.
American planes are expensive to operate in the sky, and on the ground too in terms of logistics, spares,
personnel and ammunition.

They will retain the expensive toys for when they will be required.

Lately they have also realized a scenario whereby western powers may retract support ( Presseler amendment V 2.0 ).
thus causing huge problems to Saudi Arabia.

They want to purchase the jets but demanding with pilots. I am not joking they are offering to pay full amount of 2 sq of JF-17 but asking from PAF they should operate the aircraft in KSA under Saudi command. Means they want to hire armed guards who would kill King's enemy whenever required.

Ohh, now I got why the saudis are interested in JF17.

They don't trust even their own pilots o_Oo_O

Will they buy 70+ JF-17 :D :D
Maybe 125 or so to replace the retired F-5s that were mainly used for land support a.k.a ground attack, but since the JF-17 is multirole and much more advanced than the F-5 they might need less so between 80 and a 100 is quite possible..at 40 million a piece Blk 3 with AESA,and IRST, spares, weapons and services included, it will be something like 4 to 5 billion which is nothing for KSA.. they buy 4 Ships for double that amount..The main question remains that they will want ToT for some parts or all of the airplane and all the weapons it can carry.. So let's say 6 billion with Full ToT JV.. it is still not that much expensive and will give to KSA a potent and national warplane it can call its own, upgrade it its way and develop its aerospace technologies _or part of it_ on its platform and the expertise that will be gained from the manufacturing.. all in all it will be a very big win/win situation for all the involved parties, namely KSA, Pakistan and China..That is why it is believable because it is viable..

Any source please?

I think it is fair to say that sonmething has gone down. Whether it is related to the upcoming twin seater and its utillity as a lead in trainer or whether the new AESA radar has tipped the balance in JFTs favour. Its price remains very competitive even after Saudi toys which they might want. One of the things that just struck me is whether the Saudis are using their clout to get the Middle eastern allies to get an EJ200 driven and kitted out JFT with 9 stations as a work horse for the middle eastern governments with overhauling facilities set up in Saudia. Now that would be an interesting proposition.

Any source please?
Can't share, Just heard this somewhere.
Even my source saying they are now offering if Pakistan accept their offer they would allow Jets and pilots to participate in conflict against India.
Total jets they are requesting is about 36 to 40. Just another attempt to use Pakistanis against Houthis in Yemen.

They don't trust even their own pilots o_Oo_O
Now they want our pilots to do the job since region is very hostile and we have best pilots to do that job, further they want to involve Pakistan in Yemen conflict to make sure Pakistan would never help or support Iran.
This offer is just a bribe your own jets your own pilots but we ill pay even you can use jets and pilots in conflict with India.

all 3 fighters yo have named are twin engine deep strike fighters.

Saudis don't have a single engine fighter with low operational costs. JF17 fits in perfectly with their demands.

Also jf17 will be the only saudi fighter that probably won't face any sanctions in war time.

this is absolute BS, stop spreading fake news on this site trying to create problems

if the Saudis only wanted the jf17's to be flown by pakistani pilots why the hell are they buying super mushaks then. Every country that is ordering the jf17 is also ordering the super mushak to train their pilots on. Also the saudis wouldnt be sending their pilots to the CTS for graduation if they did not have any plans for them flying the jf17.

Read my post again.
They want to involve us in Yemen conflict and to make sure Pakistan and Iran never come close.

no mate, the army and parliament made it very clear earlier in the year that Pakistan won't be getting involved in the yemen conflict.

with or without the Saudis buying the jf17

Enough!
You have serious comprehension issues.

Bro its very logical what I'm saying.

Earlier in the year the government put the question to the parliament about involving ourselves in another conflict and response was a big no. Even the military leadership said that getting involved in Yemen is going to be a disaster for Pak because then it will mean being surrounded by India, Afg and Iran all hostile towards us.

now you are coming on here saying you have some super knowledge that the Saudi AF is only buying jf17's if the pilots come with them so we start doing operations in Yemen. How do you expect anyone to believe you without any links to back up your argument.
