The Israeli newspaper, Haaretz, revealed a letter sent by Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz to the White House in which Saudi Arabia expressed its rejection of US President Donald Trump’s peace plan.

Haaretz said in a report that: “Saudi Arabia has informed US President Donald Trump’s administration that it will not be able to support its peace plan between Israel and Palestine, known in the media as the ‘Deal of the Century’, if it does not state that East Jerusalem would be the capital of the Palestinian state.”

Haaretz quoted two diplomats who participated in the peace plan talks as saying: “Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz expressed his support for the Palestinian position and assured Arab leaders that the kingdom is still committed to the 2002 Arab peace initiative, which stipulates the establishment of a Palestinian state on the borders of 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.”

The newspaper explained that the Saudi king expressed this position in a series of telephone conversations he had recently held with senior US officials, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and other Arab leaders.

King Salman has also issued an urgent order to allocate $80 million to the Palestinian Authority to compensate for the losses caused by the US aids cut-off, according to the newspaper.
Haaretz quoted an unnamed diplomatic source as saying that: “the change in the Saudi position towards the peace plan came as a result of Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and the transfer of the US embassy there.” The source added: “the Saudis informed the US administration: ‘We cannot now implement what we have promised before the US decision on Jerusalem.’”

The newspaper pointed out that “Egypt and Jordan urged the US administration to propose a peace plan if it would be fair to the Palestinian side.” It added that the Jordanians warned Trump’s administration that any biased plan to Israel would cause trouble in Jordan, which would force Amman to reject the proposal.

Reuters news agency revealed this position for the first time last Sunday, as it quoted a senior Arab diplomat in Riyadh as saying: “The United States has made a mistake by believing that one country can pressure the rest of the countries to surrender, but this is not about pressure. No Arab leader could abandon Jerusalem or the Palestinian people.”

A bit convenient by the Saudis no? When it is already a done deal - oh no sorry we had no part in it *wink* *wink*.

. .
"Expressing support" should mean action and not just talk.

USD 80 million aid this time, and in past, Arab League boycott of Israel ..... is more than just bringing people on roads to express solidarity just for the sake of it.

And what has this achieved other than more misery for the people of Palestine?

.
The Palestinians once rejected a so called "deal of the century", one where they were the majority but were offered the least land and the Jews being minority were offered the most land.

Then why only Arabs should be blamed for it? We are into it together or we all should just forget it and stop pointing fingers at each other. What good Persians brought to Palestinians cause except for dividing people and creating problems for a unified effort?

They have done more for the Palestinians than any other country. Persians were the ones who helped Bosnia too.

Why and what for? They could have helped Kashmiris the same way as they did for Bosnians, infact they hold a significant influence over a certain section of indian populace ........ but they didn't.

Iran was a significant source of weapons for the Palestinian resistance and the Hezbollah movement.

i doubt israel even wants any deal, the new ground reality is a single arab jewish state where arab is just for fun...
this is because israel is now over confident..what i predict is going to happen is world war 3 or disaster soon after a "arab-jewish" state is created on paper(its already there in practice)

ironically thats what the evangelical Christians belief is ..that a great catastrophy will happen soon after creation of single israel state

We know that some months back, the over-ambitious, ruthless and power-hungry Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) was very active at the local and international levels and had developed a great fancy for America which, together with Israel, he agreed to partner with against Iran. And MBS had developed a great friendship with US President's pro-Israel, Jewish son-in-law Jared Kushner, who Trump had made his principal adviser on Middle East. And MBS is even reported to have claimed "Kushner is in my pocket" though actually it was the other way round. And Deal of the Century, was developed by Kushner together with Donald Trump and MBS, eager to win the goodwill of Kusher and Trump, had perhaps expressed his willingness to accept the deal.

And while the details of the 'Deal of the Century' have not bee officially disclosed yet, it was supposed to give the people of Gaza some extra land in the Sinai (which presently belongs to Egypt) to form their state on, with the whole of Jerusalem given to Israel, which was also to continue unabated its illegal grab of the Palestinians land in the West Bank, pushing yet more of the Palestinians presently in the territories under Mahmoud Abbas control, to Gaza which would have been designated the Palestinian state.

And then the Middle Eastern states would have been asked to donate generously for the infrastructure development in the Greater Gaza, which would be the Palestinian state,

Of course, Mahmoud Abbas rejected the offer and refused even to see the US officials who wanted to meet him to discuss the issue. And Egyptian government also refused to spare its own land which would have been required to make the deal a success. However, MBS was stated to have threatened the Palestinian leadership that the deal will go through with or without their consent.

And then the senior Arab leaders, who have traditionally been supporters of Palestinians and of Muslims cause, intervened and stated clearly that they would not accept the 'Deal of the Century' which would do great injustice to Palestinians on top of giving Israel full control over East Jerusalem.

At this point, sidelining MBS, King Salman bin Abdulaziz stepped in and clearly stated that Arab leaders will accept only what is acceptable to Palestinians, and reject what is not acceptable to them.

MBS doesn't seem to be in too much of a limelight these days, like he used to be some months back. And I think it is good for the Palestinians, and good also for Saudi Arabia and Muslims all over the world. If given a completely free hand, the young, inexperienced, over-ambitious and rather ruthless MBS could do irreparable damage to the Muslim world.

It is good to see King Salman bin Abdulaziz taking control of the situation in time and preventing another great tragedy.
