Saudi Arabia announced on Monday that it has decided to work bilaterally with Egypt in several fields, including the peaceful use of nuclear energy, Egyptian state-owned news agency MENA reported.

The Saudi social affairs minister Majed bin Abdullah Al-Qasabi said following a cabinet meeting that the government has mandated president of King Abdullah City for Atomic & Renewable Energy (KACARE) Hashim Abdullah Yamani to work with Egyptian officials to draft an agreement on cooperating in the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

KACARE is an independent city established by Royal Order in 2010 responsible for developing Saudi Arabia's atomic and renewable energy programs.

The cabinet also mandated several Saudi ministers to sign agreements with Egypt in other fields including culture, media, education, and agriculture.

Egypt has shown interest in developing power-generating plants following an energy shortage that has caused frequent blackouts in recent years.

Last week Egypt announced it was mulling over offers from Russia and other countries to take part in building a nuclear power plant at Dabaa on the Mediterranean coast.

Interesting. Now KSA has initiated concrete steps in terms of nuclear cooperation not only with fellow GCC nations (mainly UAE) but France, South Korea, China, Japan, Russia and now Egypt. I am quite sure that Pakistan is on that list as well. Good. Arab countries should work together and leave all silly differences behind for the betterment of their countries and first and foremost people. The potential is sky-high which we all know and can see.

Both countries have alot to offer egyptain nuclear programme started in the 60s but over the years politics and sometimes war hindered our efforts egypt had a experimental nuclear reactor for decades and with the new government we can see that they are serious about nuclear power

Egypt Second Research Reactor

Egypt's Second Research Reactor (ET-RR-2) is a Multi-Purpose Reactor utilized for advanced research and development applications. This is a 22 MW thermal reactor, with a neutron flux of 2.7x1014 n/cm-2s-1.
Utilization of the reactor includes fundamental research, radioisotope production for medical, industrial, and other applications, neutron irradiation, neutron radiography and neutron activation analysis …etc.
The Reactor fuel is manufactured in an adjacent facility, the Fuel Manufacturing Plant (FMP). This is a plate type fuel element (19.75% enriched U3O8), cladded with aluminum 6061 alloy.

The Reactor, the Fuel Manufacturing Plant (FMP) and the attached Radioisotope Production Facility (RPF) represent an important development in the utilization of nuclear technology in Egypt for peaceful purposes.

so we can manufacturer fuel for the reactor which means we can make nuclear weapons with a little bit of research.

Both KSA and Egypt seem determined to push forward on the nuclear front which is good thing from a energy and technological perspective.

+ countless of other links and agreements signed with various countries, King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy, KAUST etc.

I have no doubt that KSA and Egypt in liaison could kickstart something really promising. Even take it to the last step if allowed to by the political powers.

It's about damn time that the leaders of the Arab world sit down like adults and start to cooperate on vital fronts much more than they have done in recent years. It's shameful to think about all the unfulfilled potential while we have been blessed with almost everything. Criminal in fact.

First Syria and Libya needs to be solved politically if possible. Enough is enough. The murderous must step down.
