RIYADH: Saudi Arabia and Bahrain are expected to announce closer political union at a meeting of Gulf Arab leaders on Monday, a Bahraini minister said, a move dismissed by the opposition as a ruse to avoid political reform.

The decision is part of a strategy to increase integration within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), as the organisation’s six nation’s fret about Iran’s power in the region and the presence of al Qaeda after the Arab uprisings.

Saudi Arabia and Bahrain might initially seek closer union, local media have said, as both share a concern about discontent among Shia against their ruling Sunni dynasties, and accuse Shia Iran of fomenting it – a charge Iran denies....................

Can some one please speculate about the future of "entertainment opportunities " in Bahrain if Saudi takes over.

If Bahrain will remain as entertaining as it is, we must ask the King to please take over Lebanon too :D

I was also thinking about it yesterday.

I think it might be something like a one country two system policy (China) in the beginning.

Because just yesterday some government related fees for the workers were reduced by half in Bahrain.

I thought SA, Bahrain, Dubhia etc. were already very close...

what is the bolded part?

.
So it means now Bahrain will be ruled by proxy from Riyadh???
Or will become a vassal state to the big brother?

Seriously, these Arabs go a long way to preserve their thrones!

.
Can GCC and Iran get united atleast against Israel for Palestine solution? I mean its very disgusting that they are unifining against Iran. Though happy for it.

. . . .
what is the chance of pakistan merging with KSA in near future ?

When Arabic will be the taught to the citizens as per the constitution, alongside Urdu

KSA women sitting in the passenger seat and as soon as they cross the cause way they will kick their husbands from the Driver's seat. :D

This integration is not a new idea in the GCC countries. They started it in the 1981 as a long term project with establishing a unified military in the GCC country to defend all the countries against any foreign threat.
However, it didn't progress well due to wars in the region and other political and economic difficulties. Now they are taking it to the second level. There is no good reason that the GCC countries not to be unified; the vast majority of the people in the region are very similar coming from the same tribes and alike in religion, culture, and at the same economic level.
This however wouldn't mean that Bahrain would be ruled from Riyadh or Bahrain will have same internal policies as KSA. This would imply a federal like future government where military, economy, and foreign policies are unified. This will be in the best interest of all the countries as they will support each other toward a more knowledge based economy. More importantly, it is the strong wish of most of the GCC people to be unified. We are sick of separation for no beneficial reason.

The only reason we suppressed the protesters is to prevent any closure of these entertainment opportunities:D

Correct,
There is only ONE chair.
and people who are used to being kings will not like to take on a secondary role.

I think Saudi should have a two pronged policy, " Either you come join like brothers, or we will squeeze a hug on you via military"

.
Unification is very difficult. They are just trying to send messages to Iranians that we will swim and sink together.
