The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) today announced list of central contracts for the 2019-20 season, during which the men’s cricket team will play six World Test Championship Tests, three ODIs and nine T20Is.

According to a press release issued by the PCB, the list has been trimmed from 33 to 19 and the players who have been awarded central contracts are:

Category A – Babar Azam, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Yasir Shah

Category B – Asad Shafiq, Azhar Ali, Haris Sohail, Imamul Haq, Mohammad Abbas, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Wahab Riaz

Category C – Abid Ali, Hasan Ali, Fakhar Zaman, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Rizwan, Shan Masood and Usman Shinwari

While finalising the list of central contracts, which will run from July 1 2019 to June 30 2020, players’ performances and fitness in the past 12 months and the formats they are likely to represent Pakistan in the upcoming season was taken into consideration.

Veteran all-rounders Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik have not been offered contracts but they will remain available for selection.

Malik, Hafeez set to lose central contract

PCB Managing Director Wasim Khan said: “I want to congratulate all those who have been offered central contracts for the next season. We have significantly increased the financial value of the 2019-20 retainers across each category. This is over and above what had been agreed in the current agreement, which is due to run until 2021.”

He further stated: “The PCB have set high standards and targets in its strategic plan for the upcoming season. We want to attach a high value to receiving a central contract. We have complete faith and confidence that these players will set-up and produce on-field performances that will help us collectively achieve our objectives and targets.”

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday announced the names of players who have been awarded central contracts for the year 2019-20.

All-rounders Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik have not been awarded contracts "but they will remain available for selection", a PCB press release said. Malik and Hafeez were criticised for poor performance in the recent Cricket World Cup, where Pakistan failed to qualify for the semifinals due to low net run rate.

After Pakistan's disqualification, Malik had announced his retirementfrom one-day international cricket.

The board has reduced the number of players who have been awarded a central contract from previous year's 33 to 19 but has "increased the financial value" for each category. Players have been classified into three categories: A, B and C.

The board took players' performance and fitness over the past 12 months into consideration while finalising the list of athletes who were to be awarded central contracts. Their performance in the formats that the players are likely to play in was also reviewed.

Top order batsman Babar Azam, captain Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowler Yasir Shah have been awarded category A contracts while Asad Shafiq, Azhar Ali, Haris Sohail, Imamul Haq, Mohammad Abbas, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Wahab Riaz are in category B.

Abid Ali, Hasan Ali, Fakhar Zaman, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Rizwan, Shan Masood and Usman Shinwari have received category C contracts.

"I want to congratulate all those who have been offered central contracts for the next season," the press release quoted PCB Managing Director Wasim Khan as saying. "We have significantly increased the financial value of the 2019-20 retainers across each category. The announcement comes a day after it emerged that the PCB has decided not to renew Mickey Arthur's contract as head coach.

. . . . .
Why keep sarfaraz too? What does he offer? Are all other wicket keepers dead?
He is fat and unfit
His performance with the bat was poor and that's it?.

Muhammed Amir??? Cat C? The man played like a lion. Is fit. What's wrong with PCB

Dud for nothing Taptaaan.

Amir should be in B at least Category C is underrated for him. Imam Ul Haq should be in Category A he's a fine Batsman after Babar

Sir sorry to differ though Baber Azam has evolved up to some extent and his runs are contributing in team's success where as Imam Ul Haq's runs are not adding any value in most of matches for winning. He is prone to get hurt by fast bowling on regular basis and can't increase pace of runs in one days. To me he is more suitable for test matches only. Perhaps it's the time to induct Sharjeel Khan and one other young opener along with Abid Ali in one days. For T20 may be youngsters like Khushdil Shah, Saif Badar, Imad Butt and Muhammad Rizwan along with Sharjeel Khan should be given a chance. The strike rate also matters in T20 and one days.

Finally rid of useless Hafeez! Malik was pretty much gone already.

If I was given a chance to select players for central contract, I would have selected following players.

Category A – Babar Azam (He should have been selected as the captain), Sarfaraz Ahmed (dropper as the captain and Should have been moved to B category) and Yasir Shah

Category B – Asad Shafiq, Azhar Ali, Haris Sohail, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Abbas, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Wahab Riaz

Category CImamul Haq, Hasan Ali, Fakhar Zaman (hasn’t really performed up to his potential, should have been dropped to category D. Hope he improve his game), Imad Wasim, Mohammad Rizwan, Shadab Khan (blowing looked mediocre during World Cup, moved to C category), Shan Masood and Usman Shinwari

Category D – Abid Ali, Mohammad Hasnain, Sahibzada Farhan, Saif Badar and Khushdil Shah

Agreed. It's important to rebuild the cricket team based on performance and talent, not parchi.
IMHO, Sharjeel khan is a better opener than Fakhar Zaman but he has a fitness issues and the worst fielder. He needs to play domestic cricket before he can be considered for national team.

I think Shaan Maqsood should be the main opener either with Imam or another opener.

Malik should never play for Pakistan again!

Hafeez, Malik and Afridi can continue to play in foreign T-20 league until they turn 50 but they have no place in Pakistani cricket.

Sarfraz and Yasir Shah in category A ? lol

When Yasir shah last played one day match for Pakistan and even in test matches he is good only on turning slow pitches of UAE and his performance declining even in UAE

Sarfraz cannot bat, cannot lead and average keeper
